Not much of a "project" because I'm not going to do to much to it but here's a 2006 I picked up. I've got projects but really wanting something I could be riding while I work on other stuff. I was torn between the older styling and the newer styling but really wanted the oil cooler motor of the 2004 and up. So I found a great deal on a 2006 (I had to have a friend drive me 119 miles and drop me off to ride it back but hey when the price is right..). I rode it home with the fairing and rode it for a day like that but I'm just so used to no fairing I took it off. I'm trying to find some lower bars for it or may when I find some time modify some 89 clip-ons to fit.

Very nice!
Sweet looking GS, appears to be in good condition.
I'm a little confused about the fairings. Were they factory or aftermarket?
I ask because the F model has a different headlight than the one in your photo, or did you replace that also?
In any case, it looks good. :)

Looks clean! Congrats on the purchase :-D Yes I am curious about the fairings as well!

Thanks guys. I have an 89 in pieces in the garage so I used the Headlight and headlight brackets off that but any year up to 2002 will work. I'm old school so I like the old round headlights.

I had a set of 89 clipons in the garage so I decided to give them a try on my 2006. I read about someone bending the bars for tank clearance (we all know the 01 and up tank is bigger) but I didn't like that idea and another guy used washers under the outside bolts but I wasn't super keen on that idea either. I really like the way the clipon sections lock up nicely against the upper triple clamp on the 89 clip-ons so I tried a new way. I removed material from the inner bolt area where the clipon meets the upper triple clamp, basically doing the same thing washers would do under the outside bolts but without having to use washers. It works great I did have to use an 89-2000? master cylinder (the one I used was off a 97) because it's just a little shorter and let's the brake line banjo bolt clear the tach bracket whereas the 2006 master cylinder wouldn't even clear it if I trimmed down the end of the banjo bolt. It definitely gives a better riding position at freeway speeds, less buffeting. they are also lower and 1 1/2" narrower on each side than the stock bars so going up between cars at the lights is a whole lot easier.
