Haha cool!  Thanks for the info... will hafta try it.  Every time I buy a case of something I haven't had before, I save one can out of it... have quite a few different cans by now  ;)
Superbike bars, '04 GSXR headlight & cowl, DRZ signals, 1/2" fork brace, 'Busa fender, stainless exhaust & brake lines, belly pan, LED dash & brake bulbs, 140/80 rear hoop, F tail lens, SV650 shock, Bandit400 hugger, aluminum heel guards & pegs, fork preload adjusters, .75 SonicSprings, heated grips

So I've been pretty busy with other stuff lately and haven't had much time to work on the old GR. And most of the stuff I've been doing wasn't very picture worthy.... but I've been concentrating on the seat mostly. Cut the plastic "wings" off the GS550E seat, made a plastic seat pan using the stock keyed release, etc:

And the mount for the taillight :

This plate will be independent of the seat pan, so it needs to be completed before I can actually start any fiberglass work.

And some minor work on the front end:

Bandit fender needs proper bolts, and the stainless lines are obviously WAY too long. But it's still progress....

I agree. Any progress is good progress.  Keep up the good work.

Finally, an update! I've been busy with other stuff but I did get to work on the seat some more. The last time I messed with fiberglass was back before the internet was around, so I'm learning as I go. First thing I learned: fiberglass mat pretty much sucks to work with. What a mess..... but here's where it sits at the moment:

Updates will be slow as usual, but hopefully more steady now.

Awesome!!!  :D  I am excited for the updates... I love working with fiberglass cloth and mat but yes the mat can be very messy  >:(

Good to see some progress Rich!!

The fibreglass is messy but made it so much easier getting my tail piece in the right shape. If I tried that with steel or aluminium I would've failed as I just don't have the tools for that sort of work.

I have no doubt I will be doing more fibreglass work down the track on other projects but that's fine with me. Just keep it off your skin and you'll be fine...

Thanks folks. Believe me Pete, after getting Aircraft paint stripper on my skin I don't mess around with inadequate skin protection. I couldn't imagine trying to get hardened fiberglass resin off my arm hair or something.... yikes!

Even just the bare matting itches like crazy if you're not careful...

I love it!! nice job
Will follow this one.

Big Rich

Updates? Not anything really worth posting.... I got some fiberglass on my arm that itches like crazy - does that count? Haha..... but I'm still chugging away when I get the chance.

Showbiz, I've ridden to work every day (except two) since the first of March, wearing that jacket. So yes, it is definitely getting plenty of use!

That makes me very happy  :D  I owned that jacket for almost 3 years and you've already worn it more than I did.  I am so glad it is getting used and enjoyed now.

And I hear ya about the itch... it was SO HOT yesterday and I had my car up on the lift, working overhead with fiberglass, in a tanktop haha... my shoulders itch here and there but oh well, part of the fun!  :icon_razz:

Small update on the seat: I ended up putting a single layer of cloth on the underside of the seat (and also glasses in the plastic pan to attach the seat to the frame). Once that was cured, I started sanding off all the high spots & bubbles from the top layer.

I started putting on more cloth & resin on top of the sanded surface, but ran out of brushes..... Since I was in the garage though, I started sandblasting and powder coating some small brackets and other parts - and I didn't take pictures of them yet.

New stainless brake lines all around!

Sorry about the metal tubing laying around - I'll get to that later on.... and some of the stuff I powder coated: headlight / fairing mount, rear brake arm, and lower fairing mounts:
