I crashed today..... Some damn guy with Opel Astra infront of me decided to slam his brakes, I went in the left lane And he did too so I crashed into his back left tyre...... I was able to jump from the bike at the last moment... So I only have bruises, pain and a broken little bone on my right foot's pinky... God bless full gear.... I'm in hospital today but as soon as I get home I will take aome pictures. :)

that's how it felt when I wrecked the last time... and by some darn god damn magical flying monkeys, the crash WAS my fault. [stupid laws...]

the guy cut me off on wet roads, and there was a bus stopped in front of him, so he slammed on his brakes. I WASN'T tailgating saw him stopping, and I over applied my front brakes, and locked up the front wheel. the road was also a slight turn, so I was leaning just enough, I left off my front brake, but by time I did, the bikes handlebars where givin me a good tank slapper, and I clinched, and jerked the bike over to the side to low side, the bike stopped literally maybe 1 cm from his bumper, the front tire was under his car, never even made physical contact. with his car.

basically I got a ticket, because my bike left scuff marks to the f :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: g pavement..  :bs:

200 some plus dollars later, and a traffic safety class to avoid points. and I still haven't given up. this wasn't my first fall on a motorcycle, but the first two where on closed courses so to say. so this was the first one that an accident report and the police where involved.

oh and my bike got towed.

edit; with all that damage. hope you at least left a nice big dent in the back of his car!

Makes you want to ride defensively, doesn't it?
Remember the 3 sec gap.

For some reason, most bikers (especially on sports bikes) think they are somehow exempt from riding defensively, but when it really comes down to it, no matter if you race on the tracks, an accident is so quickly done to anyone; pro racer, or not!...

A bit of healthy fear should help.
Heck, back in the days, a 250cc was considered a dangerous machine (and it is, it can get you killed), but a 500cc was a BIG bike.

The GS500 nowadays is considered between a beginner bike, and a mid level bike.
But it still is a dangerous machine!

Hope you do get better, bro!

GS500Schultz

heal up man!

Trust me you're not the only one to get hurt on a GS500. You will heal up and you will more than likely get back onto a bike. :-) maybe not a GS, but something else trust me. You don't get rid of the "itch" easily lol

This Happened on OCTOBER 6th

broken gauges, bent forks, bent rotor, bent clip ons, bent swing arm, broken brake line, dented tank.

You don't own a project bike..
The Project bike owns you!

Hate to say it but the lesson is: don't travel so close behind another vehicle. Those oldies like me are still riding because we leave 'an extra margin for error'.
Hope you heal fast and that you get back on the bike. (It doesn't look so bad, quite fixable as long as the frame isn't bent).
Beam me up Scottie....

That's not mine on the picture :D

I hope you don't hang it up over this...I have enjoyed reading your posts in here, DD.  I know you have had a couple of mishaps and I understand how that can be discouraging.  Good luck and get better, sir!!

Well I wasn not... He was driving really fast and then decided to stop full brake.... I switched to left lane to overtake him and then he turned 90 degrees to the left to go to a sideroad... Without even looking at his damn mirror... And the sad part is that I have absolutely no fault, I even drove under the speed limit but I am the one in hospital now.... I put really a lot of effort and love into that bike but....... Bad sh*t... I have way too much caring people around me to dissapoint, it's not worth it... I don't know I may someday get on a motorcycle again but for now no... I'll wait for my insurance money and buy a better car :D

Well, that's the best I could do with the pictures with a broken leg and every damn part of my body hurting... The front end is basicly ripped off of the steering thing... Guess it'll need a whole new front end and a new tank, exhaust, pipes, right engine cover and I hope the frame isn't damaged... My speedo has stopped at 70 km/h...

Be sure to check that frame for straightness before putting money in it. It looks like the steering head angle is wrong.
With some good measurements you can check it. Maybe someone can post here some frame measurements?

Wow, I've never seen a tank get ripped off by momentum like that.  Are you sure you had the front cradle pushed up onto the pad at the front of the frame correctly so it was held in at the front and back?  You are very smart to have been wearing all your gear and possibly lucky to get away with minor injury!  To me...your bike is probably a part out candidate.  Too much money in parts to fix, and you have a good engine, carbs, maybe exhaust, back wheel, and lots of odds and ends parts.

DevilDesire

My tank was perfectly fitted and tightened as well as filled to the top... I have done that myself so I know that it was sitting there tight. It's just that the crash was tremendous... And as for my luck... If I had not jumped from the bike before it hit the car I would not have been able to type this now...

I think that's a wise decision.
