I would have gone with hints before I went with flat out saying what it was...

Anyway, I'll pick up the torch.

Some manner of press, not sure what for, though. Also beer.
I'll have no idea what piece you're referring to unless you include one of the following: Doobly doo, thing-a-ma-jigger, or dibbledy dop.

Seeing as the beer is there, a cutter press for cork or nylon seals for under beer caps,

Not alcohol related.  Honestly the beer is just there because that's where the item in question happened to be.
In it of itself it serves no purpose besides decoration.  Its merely a model.  The thing it represents is bigger.  A lot bigger.  Like, incredibly big, so big that the "jaws" of the real one probably stands about 3-4 feet tall.

Press is the closest guess, but that's not what it is...   Any ideas?

I'm not sure it's a fair item to use for the game, if the thing isn't the thing it really is, if you know what I mean.  :dunno_black:
Is the 'real' item typically made of wood, like the model?

cyamaura

Ps the game is supposed to be hard and not "fair" it's better when more people are involved hopefully if we continue it more and more ppl will join in.

Well, a model is a model but that's entirely generic.  Saying it's a model isn't saying what it is.  It's like showing a picture of the Mona Lisa and asking "what is that" and someone answers "a portrait".  Yes, but no.
I don't think this game had any rules to begin with.  Just show a part, object, device, or anything, really, that you think would stump others and have them guess at what it is.  Just because it's decoration doesn't make it any less of an unknown thing...

Yes it's a model, but I guarantee that anyone who knows what the real thing is would immediately say "Oh, that's a model of a ____."  Besides, the real thing is something I don't have access to for a photograph, and probably has a background that would give itself away.

The 'real' one is steel, and without a doubt many parts on a GS500 have come from one of these.

Is it some sort of die casting press?

I'll take it.  Not castings, and not technically a press, but you're in the ballpark.  I don't expect everyone here to be a metal worker.

It's a working scale model of a forge drop hammer like this one:

My machine shop typically makes the die blocks, which are the two-tone pieces in the jaws of the model.  Except they are usually 24x26x11 or so, not 3x2x2 or whatever those are...
