Problem. .. I'm about to go sleep for another (my usual) 02:30 wakeup time, Im pretty sure there is something at work I can pix. .. tough enough to guess without being too obscure! ... 12-24hour delay till I will likely have it posted here though.... so please be patient!

Old railroad lantern?

Old railroad vacuum lantern? lol

Seriously, it does REALLY look like a vacuum chamber, but the rust seems out of place.
Is that solid glass above the 'bubble' area? What's the general size?

Watcher

Could be a fuel bowl for the carb on an old truck...

Not a fuel thing ... mojo and mura are  closest, but it's not railway stuff. .. not that I know of anyway. ..

Its not 'mine' , it was in a load of stuff we were handling/transporting to auction for a deceased estate.... once I looked it up and got the rough value (not huge but significant) I had to do the honorable thing and leave it in the carton of collectables! ... I know the family and they deserve it! (Awkward moment of pondering about my temptation tho!)

From markings on the thing I'm fairly sure it was a stateside or euro (possibly) usage. .. the voltage isn't likely for Australia?

Janx101

Scratch stateside... English origin.... used worldwide though I beleive

Elmojo

High voltage insulator?
I've seen lots of those that are glass, but never this particular design.

Kijona

Is it a light fixture that's missing the bulb?

Janx101

It is missing a bulb but it's not a light fixture per se.    Not an insulator. ..

Go back to the previous idea elmojo and work from there.. .

Its.... WWII era.... umm. .. main body is tin plated, though these things in an earlier era would have often been brass body because of their operating environment
