Hi every1 I'm new on here . Got a 1992 gs500 wouldn't start off a guy who lost interest , I put a battery in it and it cranked!!! Changed plugs ,clutch cable, and carbs and hit starter and nothing no clicks, battery full power and replaced solenoid , tho when so senior jumped(screwdriver) starts ,,,,please help driving me nuts

Loose/melted wires at or between starter switch and starter? Crudded contacts in the switch? .. the dreaded solenoid issue?

Multimeter is your friend here to some degree! .. you can test for voltage/earth/resistance along the cable route. ... with a workshop manual wiring diagram! ... handy to have in your garage equipment!

Wups... forgot you mentioned solenoid already done (there was a moth flew past! ) ... so changed solenoid and now no start? ... hmm check those connections I reckon?! Wires/connectors clean/tight/right way around? .. 

My bike had lighting issues.   Yes not a starter but still electrical... took some tracking down but ended up being part melted wiring and main harness  joiner plug/s under tank..  soft and discolored wires caught my attention. ..  eventually!

Have you inadvertently disturbed the clutch switch?

wires under tank hmm had tank off?? clutch switch doent look like that?

Yep,  the look of switch/connector changed thru years a little, but check that for sure too. . Which prompts the thought... sidestand switch also?

One more question how do I use multimeter on why a setting to text wires?

Ok. . Your question on how to use meter... provides some insight...

A few Google's or ytube searches on multimeter use should help you there...
Very difficult to..... educate? on usage via forum... it's a see/learn/do kinda thing. .  For me anyway. .

You know how to follow a wiring diagram? .. if not then do you have a buddy/relative that can show you the basics on diagrams and meters also. ..

You can't really hurt anything by experimenting. ... but without the right settings and understanding of results .. it is a difficult path.

Easiest as I see it is to ask someone to show you in person. .. or. . Websearch for the info and have a quiet read...

Once the basics are understood then you can apply that to the issue at hand!

... or just go over the visible wires by close up eye and see if you can spot a plug/wiring issue. .  Hopefully it's one simple thing that's back to front or not connected properly!

If you have changed the clutch cable its probable you have disturbed the switch

1) Pull the two cables off the clutch switch
2) Short them together
3) Try and start the bike
