New Exhaust/Multi-system Exhaust?

Hello All,
I've been scouring the inter-webs over the past couple months, and it's gotten me pretty confused.  So I'd just like some clarification.  I have an 04 GS500F, and I'm currently trying to upgrade my exhaust system.  I'd like to do a full system upgrade (headers, mid-pipe and baffle), and I've read some contradicting things.  I've read the exhaust system hasn't changed much for our bikes from '89-'09, its mostly just a question of matching up the flange work. I'm also curious if you could get the headers and mid pipe from one system, and use the baffle/slip on from another system (say, Jardine H+M and Twin Brothers Slip on).  Is there any truth to this?  Any have some experience to share?

its all about sizing... they are pretty simple.  :thumb:

also there's no "mid" pipe on the GS. it's just headers + slip-on.  :thumb:

One thing I will say, is make sure what ever aftermarket headers you get.. make sure they have that H section where the stock ones are at.. that's there for a reason. if you want to know why, head over to youtube and search for videos about exhaust system and how they are optimized.

the short and dirty response. the H section gives you a better torque curve, creates a harmonic change with the exhaust gases, and their pulses, helping the gas move a little bit faster through the system. as one cycle puffs out, it goes past the open pipe. part of those gases go into the pipe, creating a low pressure, so as the other cylinder fires, the low pressure created by the mid section is now on the other side, and it pulls the gases downward, and it rinses and repeats...

I've been trying to find the sizing I would need, but with no luck.  Do you know how to take the measurements/where I could find just headers?  I don't care so much if it's the same make for the headers+slip-on, I just want the as much of a boost as I can get with the sound I like the most.

Can't help on the size but there is a link on the site (do a search) where one of the members has several videos of different systems with audio.  Does a good job of giving you an idea of what each one sounds like.  The difference between stock and say a V&H is a real surprise.  Makes the GS sound like a real crouch rocket.  When a GS with the V&H hits 8 to 9 thou it really screams.

You wouldn't happen to know the URL offhand would you?  I've searched a couple times but I haven't come across that thread yet.

My bad....they are on Youtube:

There are a bunch of others with different exhaust systems

That's where I've seen a lot of the videos of the various systems for the bike.  I like the Twin Brothers slip-on sound better, but I'd like to get a whole system.

So I was going to go with a Jardine RT-One full system, but I can't seem to find one anywhere.  The dealership had them listed in stock, but when they went to pull it, they didn't have any, and the supplier had stopped carrying that exhaust.  I feel like I've been sucker-punched.  Does anyone have any experience with modding or building their own exhaust?

GatorTrae

why the need for a full exhaust on this bike. ..... just get a slip on for a different look and sound.

I did a $90 ebay find from a gsxr 1000. matt silver finish like the frame.  a $.99 cent connector from AutoZone and a welder. A little black paint and done.

Hi all ,   well  let me tell you what I know ,  jardine  is NLA ,  motad  in uk (nexxus) (full system) will not confirm  fitment  on a gs500f  ( the added oil cooler ) ,  same goes  for  V & H  does not fit  ,  ok  predator in  england  has  not confirmed  fitment  ( the added oil cooler)   cobra  in australia  shows  downpipes  for  $ 500.00  plus  link pipe  and  muffler  need  to be added in price  ,  never  got confirmed  fitment  ( the added oil cooler )  or confirmed price  and posted  up on this site  many times  IF  anyone has  cobra , motad (nexxus) , predator , vampire (bsm)  (germany)  and  laser  deeptone  fitted  on  a gs500f ,  bassani  in anaheim needs  25 orders  ( money down )  to start production ,  leaves  me to think that the only system that fits a gs500f  ( full stock fairing) that you can buy today is  DELKEVIC  ........   please  if anyone knows anymore information  please post up   , thanks in advance  rg500gamma

I don't know why you'd need a full system, other than some slip-ons require a certain flange set-up coming off the mid pipe.  I've found someone locally who's willing to mock up some custom headers and mid pipe if I need it, I'm just trying to decide on a slip on so he can build to match.  I'm tempted to go with Two Brothers exhaust, but most of their stuff is just out of my price range for a slip-on.  Delkevic sounds aright, and I know they'd fit, I'm just not sure if I like how it sounds.  I've seen people with the SS70 on the 500, and I think I like that sound the most.  Thoughts?

I'm also curious as to the difference between the 350mm and the 450mm.  Does the length affect performance, sound, or both?

Hi Knohel ,  the reason for me not cutting off the stock muffler and putting a slip-on is  I have shad hardcase luggage and  I have contacted all the companys that manufacture slip-ons   ,( i.e.  yoshimura  is the one I really wanted )  and they all said no idea if it clears shad hardcase luggage ,  then delkevic  told me  that their full system SS70 (might clear) so  I left  my stock system in place ,  I go to search on the web everyday  to see  IF  anyone out there has  a different  exhaust slip-on or full exhaust system with shad hardcase luggage and still no luck , IF I make the cut and the slip on muffler hits the shad hardcase luggage  I will have problems , IF  I try to fit-up a full system and it hits the shad hardcase luggage  then I can go and put the stock system back in place . kind regards rg500gamma

Reckon it would be possible to buy any slip on a person preferred.... then go to a exhaust man that knows his stuff... "man!, that can to clear that case!.. new pipework and bracket to suit please!... go!" ...

It is. .. afterall. .. somewhat of a custom fit task... cost a 'few bucks' extra but you'd have your hearts desire!?

knohel

Well I'm saying I'm not sure if I'm getting/needing a whole system b/c if I can find a slip-on that already fits onto the mid pipe of the stock system, then I could use that.  Or after talking to my fabricator guy, I could decide I want the whole system and and have him go nuts with the upgrades.  Obviously one is a lot more easier than the other, but both are viable options at this point.  And I what I want is 1) performance upgrade 2) unique-ness upgrade.  Not that I have any issue with point #2.  I'm already pretty unique in the area;  I just want to stand out that much more.  Plus it'd be nice to make cagers hear me so they don't try and cut me off (it's happened plenty of times).

rg500gamma

Hi Knohel , yes I know what you are wanting ,  when you get it done please post some photos ,  what I did was mount-up  a  very much louder  horn  tell I get the exhaust  up-grade  done   , take care  Knohel

Yeah I'll post what I do.  I'd really like to get the Two Brothers SR-1 Racing Slip-on or something from their Black series.  I'll post pictures when I'm done as well.  I'm planing on posting a complete list of upgrades/stuff I've done to my bike as it's pretty unique and I've yet to see anyone with similar upgrades.  My concern with the SR-1 slip on is that it's very LOUD! It's not designed for the 500, rather it's designed for the GSX-R 600/750, and our bigger pure sport brothers.  I've read that it can reach as loud as 122 db at the slip on, which breaks my local sound laws by about 10 db.  I love the throaty sound of it though, so I'm wondering if I can get a silencer tip with the slip on.  Another issue is that the slip on is closer to $600+, where as the Delkevic 350 and 450 systems are around $260 tops.  That's a pretty big price difference.  Delkevic also has a 8" carbon fiber slip on the GS as well.  Are located in the states or somewhere else in the world rg500gamma?
