Hi Everyone,

I recently got a 96 GS from a a friend who hadn't ridden it in years.  He had to get it out of his attached garage due to a fuel leak that was making his house smell.  The bike has since made it to my garage where I have drained and pulled the tank off to see that the leak is coming from the edge where the top stamping of the tank is welded to the bottom stamping.  From what I can tell it is only in a small section and the interior of the tank looks relatively rust free.  What I am trying to figure out is what my options are.  Do I need a new tank or would using a tank lining kit fix my problem?  I was leaning towards giving the Por-15 kit a shot but was hoping for some guidance.

I don't have a pic of the spot on the tank but on this pic you can see where the tank moulding is stretched and drooping.

I have used POR15 in several tanks.  Works great.....just make sure you follow the instructions exactly.  If the hole is more than just a pin hole you may need to use Caswell's.  Caswell's puts a thicker coat on the tank.  Prep of the tank is the biggest part of the whole process.

A lot more information can be found on many of the Vintage bike sites.
