That's the cat`.......Suzuki started fitting them in 2004.

Mmmm I don't think it CAT because there is no fuel injection.  I thought it might be a baffle for the PAIR systems which allow fresh air into the exhaust to allow for combustion to continue into the exhaust.  This might cause allot of popping on the over run hence the baffle. The main question is there any benefit to removing it.

Definitely a cat. Check out the prices on bike bandit for 2003 v 2005 OEM exhausts, the later cat pipes cost about 30% more.

Your bike is jetted and set up for the cat, take it out and you will probably have to start again.........only one way to find out  :thumb:

If you take it out, it'll run more efficiently, unless if it's running too lean, then you'd have to increase the main jet.

Cat is usually used for diesel engines, but also on regular fuel exhaust systems, to clean up exhaust gasses, and reduce dangerous emissions.
You don't need fuel injection to have this.
In fact, fuel injection might need it less than carbureted engines.

I know from cars in the UK we never had cat with out injection not always multi point sometimes an electronic controlled carb.  The problem for me being a Catalytic converter is any unburnt fuel will contaminate the CAT and carbs are not that good at controlling fuel mixture.  Which is why we they are allowing the extras in air into the exhaust to allow the burn to continue in the exhaust.  I don't have manual for the K4 on wards.  The other thing cat are usually quite large and very hot I don't see that on the bike or any o2 senors.   I still think it baffles but I will leave it put .

Tell you what......... type "motorcycle catalytic converter" into google images and then we can play spot the difference  :thumb:

I am very surprised and happy to omit am wrong cheers Guys.  Surly thought a CAT with carbs is far more to fuel contamination than a bike with injection?
