Malfruen

Bitchumen trencher for traffic light signal wires and shaZam!?

Elmojo

He said it was really small. Based on the grease fitting at the upper hub, I'd say the whole "blade" is maybe 7" long?
He also said that they come in various sizes...  :dunno_black:

Malfruen

I'm swinging wild here! I haven't the faintest clue what it is.

mennobike

Teeth look like carbide, I'm going to have to agree on some sort of cutter meant for concrete or stone. Otherwise carbide just seems excessive...
I'll have no idea what piece you're referring to unless you include one of the following: Doobly doo, thing-a-ma-jigger, or dibbledy dop.

Elmojo

Ok Janx, I think we need some more pics/hints. :)

cyamaura

Is it one of the chainsaws on a pole kinda like a weed whacked attachment

Ok lads.... Some good guesses but off the mark... (Robot is cool! But no) ...

It is for wood.... Trencher? Not as such, right shape but wrong desc

Mojo got the scale pretty much right

Not sure if the teeth are carbide.... It would be used in AUssie hardwoods a lot though.. And some of them are BLOODY hard! ... So tough teeth they are!

This is the unmodified version of the last pic

Elmojo

A rip saw for milling raw lumber to dimensional sizes?
The setup looks like a band saw, but with a bar and chain blade.... :dunno_black:

Janx101

That is closer mojo..... But used for dressed timber pretty much.... And dimensions ... Yes it could be used for exacting dimensions  :D

Elmojo

I know I'm close, I just don't think I've seen whatever this is before.
I'm stumped, anyone else have a clue?

mennobike

Something to cut joints into boards, then, perhaps?  :dunno_black:

Janx101

Hint. . You know when you build something with timber..  you can just bodge it and just butt the timbers together... OR ... you can go old school and make a proper joint? ..  this machine is old school way! .. think of carpentry/cabinet maker terms. ..

Trench is vaguely right.   But that's a ground/earth thing mostly. . So think trench type thoughts but in wood!

Janx101

Wups.. missed Menno post. . Nearly there mate!

Joint in timber is a ??..   that a cutting chain would make?

Elmojo

So it's a groover, or mortise, if you want to be technical?
I thought of that right away, but it seems really inefficient to have a machine setup up for such a specific cut.
I guess if you're making flooring or something where you'll be cutting thousands of board feet of the same cut?
Anyway, very cool tool! Do you have a photo of the whole thing?

Janx101

Yep Morrissey cutter, have pic, will post when home. . This is for cutting big mortise joints into hard timber, fence posts, house sub frames, old factory roof bearers etc, gimme half hour and pic will be up

Janx101

Morrissey? Ffs! .  Don't text and drive people!

mennobike

Dagnabit, so close! Should've known. :technical:

I reckon if Mojo hasn't got anything handy Menno then it defaults to you... It was damn close!

Pics

mennobike

Well THAT'S why it didn't look familiar, it's from the stone age!  :D

Wow, that is VERY cool!
I never knew those existed, but now that I do, I want one!  :cookoo:
Kinda makes my router look puny.  :-[

Menno, please go ahead and post something, I'm out of town and won't be able to scrounge for a photo until later this week.
Besides, your guess was close enough for me.
