Exhaust Can Length vs Noise Level

I have a very general question about slip on exhausts.  Looking at several of the Delkevic cans.  What is the general sound characteristic of a can's length?  Doesn't longer equal quieter, deeper etc.?  Thanks

I think packing comes into play, I'm a Yoshimura guy, anything else is just a bunch of noise IMHO

On the most rudimentary of levels, a shorter can will normally be a louder, raspier sound. Longer can will be a deeper, mellower sound.

And then we can get into the engineering, baffle design, baffle placement, exhaust gas routing through different chambers of the muffler, how much packing is in the muffler, how much exhaust gas volume in cc's your motor is putting out, etc etc etc etc I could go blue in the face here listing every possibility lol

Hmm...I really want a nice quality deep sound, not that honda civic with the open can sound.  I'm willing to spend to get it but from reading the forum it sounds like enough people think that the cheaper slip ons sound just as good.  I can't tell from youtube videos.  Do you think there is a noticeable difference between a full system vs just a slip on?  Clearly you think there is a difference between manufacturers.  Appreciate the advice.

What I do know...Yoshi's are not cheap, but they are one of the most quietest of the slip on's out there. Don't buy a full system unless yours is rotted and full of holes, the money spent for the HP you will gain is better spent on more CC's/another bike.

(Stevo still drinking)

Wider diameter means more muffling effect.
Larger length of the can usually means deeper sound. The more mellow is just an after effect of whatever else muffling devices are added within the can, but if you take a bare can, and lengthen it, the exhaust tone shouldn't drop a lot in volume at all.

Smaller tip is more muffling, but also more restricting.
Larger tip is more free flow, but louder sound (could also produce more sharper sound).
Exhaust tip also can give it a more 'turbo-like' sound when installing a blowback whistle tip.

Catalytic converter, rockwool, or any other softer tissue in the exhaust takes care of the sharper tones (makes it sound more mellow).

I love the stock can sound..... so does my ears.. I did the whole 'loud exhaust' thing for awhile on some other bikes. and it noticeably ruined my hearing slightly, even with foam earplugs + helmet. sometimes you don't have or forget your earplugs.. 30 minutes of highway riding, and you have -20 points hearing +20 points helmet head.

I really like the stock can sound at idle and low rpm but I wanted something with more grunt at high rpm.  Something that will drown out that high pitched wine that smaller displacement motors make.
