K & N, Stock Airbox, Seems better

Wondered what your experience was.  I have a stock bike, but I put in the K & N stock airbox filter.  The advertising makes lots of claims, but I wasn't sure I beleived it.

After riding the bike for a few days, I am convinced that my throttle response is MUCH better.  I climb from 6-10k faster than I did before, and my flat spot between 5-6 is not as noticeable.

All this without a rejet?  Am I imagining this?  If not, this goes on my list for cheap, practical, 20 minute mods along with EBC sintered pads and Progressive springs.

I have the same setup, but the K&N has been in the airbox long enough now that I don't remember the performance difference details anymore.  One of these days I'll switch back to a stock paper filter just so I can take notes.

I do remember the intake noise being noticeably louder.  But since I bought the K&N more for its reusability than for any performance gain, maybe I never paid close enough attention otherwise...?

PS - You have the "restrictor ring" installed, yes?

Yeah, I got the filter for the reusability too.  Can't beat 1 million miles on a filter!  Any potential performance increase was icing on the cake, but I didn't really expect it.

Yes, I have the restrictor installed.  I also noticed an increase in intake noise but not enough to be annoying.

thats why you dont need to rejet as bad, but remove that and you would have to.
going fast isnt the problem, its the crashing and burning that hurts

 were abouts is this restrictor,?.I have alos fitted a k&n
air filter,a few weeks ago.

Is it that white strip which goes down the side of the filter,?.or
something like that.

I am going to rejet soon,so will i have to take off this restricor also,?.

I am STILL waiting  :x for my K&N WITH JETS :) . Chaparral said the pilot jets should be in to THEM today. I do not plan on using the restrictor, :nono: and will post any noticeable performance gains.

OK Old and dirty paper air filter isn't as good as the new K&N... OK Let me think why that can be...... Nope... nothing comes to mind...
Lean is mainly going to get worse when cold... So might be OK now, but might want to go 1 size up on mains and pilots and 1/2 mm up on needle anytime you can...
Cool.

I guess if you have over 4000 posts you get a free pass for sarcasm?  :nana:

My point was whether or not the claimed increase in air flow over a conventional paper filter, even with the restrictor and stock jetting, would make a noticeable difference in bike performance.  The box claims that throttle response will be better with the K & N, but advertisers claim everything.

The question, as you alluded to, is whether I am just seeing a good running bike because the filter is clean, ie new paper would have done the same thing.  Got an answer?

Yea that cleaner and better air flow is 1 component, the second factor is the bike might have otten leaner especially at the higher throttle openings... but lean problems show up on cold days, more than on hot days, and the other thing is if you were on a constantly changing throttle setting, you accelerate and brake and accelerate... over and over... like in the twisties... lean problems rarely show up... steady throttle and lean mix sucks... the surging, the misfiring, the loss of power the constant hunting for idle... So get to the highway and try a steady throttle 6-7K rpm cruise.
Cool.
