I got the 8" Delkevic slip-on.  It should be here tomorrow.  I ordered it from Delkevics site, so it's coming from then in Colorado.  I'm dropping it off to the guy who's building my headers, and we'll see what he says and what he's able to do with it.

I'm selling my delkevic exhaust for $125 if you're interested

Schultz -
I had already bought it and it was enroute.  Sorry dude, I would have definitely been interested!  I got the can tonight when I got home from work.  Unfortunately, the alternator went out on my car on the way home, so I haven't had a chance to savor the new can.  I'm going to hopefully get a new alternator and replace the one in my car Fri, so I can run the can over to the guy who's building my headers.  I'll post pictures later this week.

On another note, I got sent this calculator from someone in another forum.  Could any of you guys explain it to me in plain terms?  I know enough to kind of understand it, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking at here.

I seriously thought about making mine a dual exhaust.  If I had more money, I would have for sure.  I saw a video on youtube where someone took a 500 and put dual hayabusa exhaust's on.  I wanted to something similar but with the two bros exhaust.  But the slip-ons alone would have cost around 1.2k, and I just didn't have that kind of money laying around lol.  I figured for that much, I could have saved a little more and bout a 1k bike

Pretty sure the visa twin zorsts were someone on this board?!

The Slip-on came in at the end of last week.  Took it over to the guy building my exhaust as soon as I fixed my car.  He told me that as long as he doesn't get too busy, he should be able to get it done this week and have it ready for me this weekend.  Which is great.  It's starting to get into the 50's around here.  I'm seeing bikes out and I want to go ride myself.  Soon.....

Visa = busa. .. sigh. ..

Yeah, I saw a youtube video the other day where someone put dual 'busa exhausts on a GS500.  If that's what you're talking about

So I just got back from vacation and the guy has my system ready.  I'll post pictures shortly.  I think I'm going to get some exhaust wrap and wrap the pipes down to the mid pipe.  Thoughts?

Iarn

Isn't wrapping known to quickly rust out what's beneath it? No real practical benefit as far as I'm aware. Am I wrong?

Interesting read, this thread is.  If I have a question to ask here, my dad always encourages me to first do a search to see if the question has already been posed and answered.  That brought me to this thread; glad I found it.

So does this mean that the Delkevic aftermarket slip-on is the only one, thus far, that has been cleared, fitment-wise, for the 2006 GS500F?

My dad suggested that I start looking for an aftermarket slip-on pipe for my bike, (he's partial to LeoVince SBKs and Yoshis).

Are my choices that limited?

Thanks in advance.

Iarn

Simple slip-ons made specifically for the GS are pretty limited these days.

However, the GS can accommodate a surprising amount of exhausts if you don't mind a little elbow grease and have the know-how.

You could probably find some threads on GSTwins about odd fitments.

Thank you.

If that's the case, then I'll be targeting a Delkevic slip-on then.  Particular model number, anyone?

Life throws me enough odd fitments as it is.  Prefer to keep it simple whenever I can.  :)

Iarn

Check out on ebay. There are lengths between 8" to 18" I have a 9" myself. Really depends on the sound you want. Longer exhausts will be deeper and quieter. Shorter will be louder and have more "pep"

Now that I have a target manufacturer (Delkevic), I'll spend some time watching YouTube vids of various Delkevic slip-ons on some GS500s first.

Carbon is over-priced for this homeschooled teenager, so I'll probably be looking for an aluminum one to save some weight over a steel one.

Thanks again.

Iarn

Honestly, depending on the length you get matters more than the material. The carbon 9" over the steel 9" Delkevic difference in weight is negligible. Maybe a pound. I'd assume the difference would be just as small with the other lengths.

The longer the pipe the greater the weight difference, I suspect.  I'm inclined to seriously look at the 18" setup.  The throatier and deeper the better.  And less noisy (as in the piercing kind) on the highways is also desirable.

Don't expect to have bags or passengers, so the longer the better.

I've run wide open cans - like wileyco and D&D as well as the small dia "tight and quiet" GS spec V&H or yoshi's.
I think the WFO cans are louder when you're standing next to them and revving. They seem like they'd be very loud on the road. The smaller ID cans seem like they would soften out into a burble and be pleasant at regular road rpm's.
Except, it doesn't happen that way. The small ID cans sound loud @ higher revs to the rider. The large ID WFO cans seem to send the sound behind you and less of it reaches the rider on the road speeds.

I dunno about delkevic ... I am old school, but I like the old school Yoshi's. I have a Titanium tri oval on the GS and absolutely love it. It was a pipe needing a triangle flange. Accurate and good looking fitment was no picnic.

Cool.
