Well my stupid brain went to work tonight, i went to check my valve clearance and in doing so my ring slipped off my finger and my heart stops cold  :o first thing wtf do i do know will i run inside find a flash light and run back out ring is sitting in there on the chain. I start freaking out more run grab a stick magnetic and test it on my other ring that is exactly the same... nothing i am just in a so pissed off state with my heart going faster then ever so i run inside and grab some wire clip a foot or so off and bend just the end a little in a V shape. Last chance if i mess this up i am gonna have to have a professional get it out. I pace some trying to calm down cant have a hand shaking, it settles i lean over slowly inching my way down with this wire start to loop it under and through one of the Celtic knot it starts coming up and out  :woohoo: happy dance and finish removing all my other rings not gonna have that again scared me to death. Well once i settle down my mind goes what if something else fell to and i didn't notice  :icon_eek: i am freaking out again i use the light don't see nothing i then spin the 19mm nut on the engine for like 5 Min's listening and feeling for anything that should not be there. I hate when i do stuff like this and i always get that voice in my head saying u messed something up i am 100% sure nothing else fell in but i just get that noise in my head and start freaking out.

Good save!

Two things that might help next time: stuff a couple clean rags in the center of the engine to block stuff from falling in. People drop all kinds of stuff down there when checking valves (obviously). And nitrile / latex gloves for oily engine work are for more than keeping your hands clean!

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Which all goes to show, - motorbikes and jewellery don't really mix, BUT on the other hand, wear your jewellery on your foreskin and no probs at all.

Be aware, this is not very wise advise!

Umm. .. if I recall correctly, Jools has had recent back surgery?! .. may still be medicated! ;) which could account for his overshare!  ;)

Joolstacho

Haha, I know I've got to keep taking the tablets eh?!  :icon_eek:

Post surgical background pain is no fun at all! .. tablet away sir! .. that's what they gave them out for!

You almost where seriously phugged!  :icon_eek:

Not only losing some overpriced piece of metal in the engine, but possibly an engine seizure should you have not noticed something falling in there!

I don't know which one would be worse, but I put my vote on engine seizure being worse than losing a wire of bullion.

And with that fateful twist of the throttle, both marriage and motor seized to exist.

Seriously, glad you caught that 8ball. Had a kick spring give in my DR350 and shear all the teeth off my oil pump... spent the last six months split open picking metal out of her. NOT FUN  >:(
