A good HID kit for GS 500 2003?

Hi folks,
Been wanting to install some Xenons in my stock GS 500 2003 after I gave it a lick of paint, but am a little unsure of the best options.

I came across this HID conversion kit for bi xenons and would love to hear your thoughts on installation. Still can't work out the difference between single bi xenons and dual bi xenons though.

Here's the site http://www.hidkitsxenonlights.com/suzuki-gs500-xenon-kits-lights-conversions-headlights-bulbs/

I have a Haynes manual but no experience installing this stuff.

I took a screenshot of the dual xenon with a relay. Worth getting? They have a 'slim' ballast too for more money, hoping that's unnecessary.

Thanks!

Once you lift your tank and see the space available, you'll appreciate the slimmer ballast.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes.

Appreciate as in it's easier to install or appreciate as in the fat one won't even fit? I figured they wouldn't sell if it wouldn't fit, right?

And any advice on the Dual bi-Xenons as opposed to Single bi-xenons? I read up on the types, but this I had not seen.

Cheers!

Don't make the assumption about the balast fitting or not based on them selling.
this is what I bought for my F. It's great.

How easy was it to install? I like a bright headlight, too, and LED's are great, but others had trouble (had to modify the headlight) installing aftermarket LED bulbs.
Would you care to share your experience with it? Brightness, beam pattern, how is it at night compared with the stock one?
Doesn't the reduced power consumption put too much strain on your reg/rect.?
Thanks!

There are some real concerns I ran into while looking up HID for my car. I'm ever the skeptic about such things, and there are many articles such as this one to point out the differences between the types of bulbs put into a headlamp reflector fixture.

What I'm looking into next is 'eye brow' lights for my bike and car. Should increase visibility and add that nice "white" light at night.

Sorry it took forever to reply to the questions about my experiences with the light i posted above.
So to install, it's super easy on an F.  It has a bulb with a decent size fan that screws into the back of it after you've put the bulb in. then a wire goes over to a small power ballast it is secured with double sided tape. From there it connects to the stock wire for the head lamp.
On an E i'm sure the power ballast part would be a challenge to find a place to secure it.
Regarding the voltage it pulls or strain on the regulator... I have no idea. Didn't test it.  I've been using it for a few months now and no issues noticed. I've even using an OLD battery.
Regarding the light quality... the new lamp seems 10x brighter than the original.  Putting on the high beam on it's even brighter as the second led is activated.
Regarding the light pattern... it is a nice wide spread and illuminates well down the road. A while back I rode with a friend, who has a Versys. he had two of these lamps and I had the original bulbs. As we were next to each other I could barely see any of my light color and pattern on my side of the road, his overpowered mine and was at least 25% longer down the road.
Regarding the light color... it is definitely a whiter color than the stock yellow.  I don't recall the exact temperature number/color for reference.  Maybe it's in the link?

Two issues i want to fix:
the black rubber dust cover doesn't easily fit back on between the bulb and fan.  I have left it off for now. but I will need to modify it to fit better.
On a F there is a small second bulb in the headlamp housing. It's the same yellow color as the original and looks bad. I may just disconnect it as an easy fix.  I'll post some pictures later.

Thanks for the review!
I'd like to ask a few more. How does the fan/heating unit attach to the bulb itself? That is not shown on the ebay link.
Are replacement bulbs available, or do you replace everything that came with it if there's a problem?
Does the Chinese origin show on the product somehow?
What modification do you think would be needed to fit the dust cover?

The fan screws into the back of the bulb, it's nicely machined and is not an issue.
replacements: I have no idea, I would assume a whole new set up.
Not sure what you mean by chinese origin show on the product. I didn't notice any markings, but it's been a few months.
The dust cover just needs the hole in the middle enlarged a bit. Should be easy, but always something else to do instead.

Also, you will notice the fan come on when you turn 'on' the bike. But you can't hear it once the motor is started.
You'll need to supply your own double sided tape.

If you have an F, just buy it!  You won't regret it.

I've very tempted to buy it but I have convinced myself to first source a replacement rubber boot thingie. I might try a junk yard and see if I can scavenge something from any other vehicle with any number of wheels that'll fit the bike, so that I can keep the original boot intact in case I ever want to revert to the H4 halogen OEM bulb. I bet I'll be able to find something sooner or later that'll work with the help of some creative dentistry.

EDIT: I pulled the trigger anyway... Since it's coming from China, I have at least two years to figure out how to deal with the rubber dust boot before the bulb arrives, so I figured why not just go for it.

As to the smaller clearance light that will now be yellower than the headlamp: Amazon and eBay have lots of LEDs that'll work in that spot so the aesthetics shouldn't be a worry.

Now for a good LED tail/brake bulb replacement... Suggestions?

Rallyfan

Ok when you're right, you're right! Noteworthy light output and not terribly blue either. Plus they've cleverly used the top LED for dipped beam, meaning light is reflected down by the housing and glare is relatively minimal as a result.

Now about the box: mine is zip tied to the buttress for the triple up top but the wiring seems a bit exposed and dangly. Also I've not sorted a rubber boot solution.

All suggestions welcome and a huge thanks for the bulb tips!

GatorTrae

post of pic of how you did the power box.
Mine is double side taped to the inside of the fairing off to the right side, sort of near the area behind the turn blinker.
I looked at the boot again yesterday. I put it down after five seconds and went back to my other projects.   :dunno_black:

Rallyfan

Aha, thanks! I'm thinking of laying it flat facing upwards on the horizontal inner surface of the lower part of the nose piece of the fairing. I'll post pics once I can (it's now night here, everywhere except in front of my bike -- in front of my bike it's like that scene from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" where the huge mothership UFO lights up for the first time).

I wonder if their 9007 units are good; I've got a car in mind that I'd like to swap... Heh...

GatorTrae

where you described is where I put mine with the tape, about 500 miles and no problems.

Atesz792

Any pictures, guys? I'd be really interested :)
Do you have the dust cover problem resolved?

Totally, would love to see pics. Mind's naked so I'd need to hide the gear well.

Here's pic from the install on my F....

hmm I thought the attachment worked. maybe i'll post to web and link to it.

That's basically my setup right now also. I've yet to sort out the rubber boot either.

Main (high) beam is unimpressive. However the bulb is very (!!!) bright and visibility to others is improved a lot. Low beam is a different pattern than the halogen but glare to others is not a problem so far, I can see better, and I can be seen better too. Sorry no pics yet; no time.

gsnaked

Looks great, not nearly as big as I thought. White would stand out without the fairing but maybe a lick of black spray paint would fix that.

So no worries about the poor hi beam? Low suffices?
