So, yeah.. i first noticed this a week or two ago. I was sitting at the redlight, and suddenly i hear a knocking sound in my engine. It lasted for a few seconds, then it was gone again. I thought it was weird, and didnt think too much of it.

But it is happening more frequently now, and it knocks longer. It's always when stationary (or at least, thats when i hear it), and usually i give some revs, that makes the knocking go away for some reason.

I was thinking, maybe valve or plug knocking, but that would mean the knocking would always be there, wouldnt it? what else could cause this very typical knocking sounds? :(

Camshaft float. Search for that term here, you'll see it is only an annoyance.

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Hmm. Cam float is described by a lot of topics i find as a more chriping noise.

The knock i have sounds more like this, only constant for the time it's knocking, not as irregular as this video.

Is this the cam float sound?

Yep, that's camshaft float. I had it in my two ex-GS500!
You can check my topics, there should be a video of one of mine GS's doing exaclty that noise!

That is great to hear! I was afraid my valves were about to go to shaZam! or something.

Not something i can fix before tomorrow, when i have a 250 Km/s highway riding in front of me, and i'd hate it if the bike was to die halfway.

This puts my mind to ease a bit :)

I thought it was piston slap when I first heard it on mine!!

Doesn't sound like cam knock to me, frequency is too irregular for cam knock that has a constant slow frequency.  Maybe try leaning it over to test it like Suzuki suggests in their shop bulletin?

Had cam knock in both of my GSs but haven't heard it for years now.  I checked mine by pulling cam cover and checking for excessive sideplay of camshaft.  Both of my GSs had excessive side play in one camshaft.

Worth a read, maybe, beware of possible oil thread resulting:   :dunno_black:

Thats not my video. When it occurs to me, its a steady and constant (till it stops) next tim i hear it, ill lean the bike over, and see what effect it has.
