Have moved onto the brakes.  Front brake lever has no pressure at all.  Opened the reservoir to find fluid that resembles stale pee.  Do I flush it with new fluid and hope that all is ok or pull the master and slave cylinders apart and rebuild?  There doesn't appear to be any leaks.  Also is there a place to get new screws for the reservoir cap (perhaps stainless)?

I would say flush it first and see what happens.

Also for the cap screws take your old ones to a hardware store and they can match up something in stainless for you.

I say pull it apart, carefully inspect it and if there is no serious corrosion involved rebuild it with new seals. You really don't want to be taking chances with braking components.

However............ be aware, without a set of these its practically impossible to get the circlip out that retains the piston and seals.

As Schultz says, go to a hardware store for the reservoir cap screws. They are M4 x 12mm. The ones with the allen head are DIN7991 / ISO10642. I prefer using them instead of the weaker philips headed ones.

But they are not Phillips or Pozi, they are JIS, which is the Japanese take on them. Use the correct tools and you wont have an issue, its a simple as that 

Its for the same reason owners are always complaining about the float bowl screws rounding off. Its not the screws that's the problem, its the tool they are using to undo them.

If you are stuck and have no option but to use a Phillips try filling/grinding a mill` or so off the end, it will fit a JIS head much better and reduce the chance of rounding the head.

just to set cat among pigeons, my reservoir screws are 10mm long.  Maybe they've been replaced previously.
