I was looking for a set of bags and/or a tail box.

After doing some reading, it seems that the trunk case is preferred choice for GS riders.

So i went to giviusa.com but they don't seem to have anything for an 00 GS500E. They start with 01. Is there really a difference?

i also saw a generic universal one on JCWhitney

for $44!

any other recommendations?

i don't want to drop a few hundred dollars as it will be coming right off after i return from my 4 day ride.

Thanks all!

Have you thought about a waterproof duffle bag or something similar? They have a large & inexpensive one at walmart. That, and a couple Rok straps would be a cheap short term solution.

Remember with the $44 top box from JCWhitney: you also need a way to mount it to the bike.

doesn't come with the luggage rack itself. I guess that makes sense now. damnit.

Any tips on a luggage rack?

That walmart idea sounds good too. I'll look into that. It'll probably hold more stuff anyway.

i've got a kriega US10 pack that is amazing. by no means cheap but i can take it camping without a worry about size/weather/etc. Others have mentioned it working elsewhere too, like carry-ons and using as a backpack so evidently it's pretty versatile.

for short trips around town though i've got an old, general, school backpack. fits a few groceries + spare gloves.
