Hello All, I'm just looking for some help with the upgrade I want to do. The shock from my Gs its bouncing a lot and its already leaking. I've read a lot in the website about the R6R shock. I've seen pictures and good stuff in the forum. All the adjustments that can be done with this shock so Im convinced that I want it. Also I convinced my wife that we need it  :)

I just want to know if that shock fits my 1995 Gs500 and what year of the Yamaha shock should I look for and besides the shock if I need to buy something else.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Take a look at the wiki: http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.RearShock

The main thing is to make sure it has a clevis on the end and NOT an eye bolt. The next important thing is to get one with the linkages still attached. This isn't strictly necessary, but you'll need to get a separate part to make it work. You don't need most of the linkage, what you need is the metal bushing inside one of the holes of the triangular piece of metal and the bolt. This is because the bolt size is different. I think that anything 2006+ and newer will fit, but the 2008 and newer has a smaller reservoir, so it's a little easier to fit.

btw, I bought and installed one from an '08 R6 just a few weeks ago on eBay for about $58 shipped, so I know that'll fit.

Good luck!

EdChen thanks so much for the reponse.

What do you think about this one? It comes with the bolts.

I'm pretty sure that'll fit.Ask the seller if he has the bolt spacer for the clevis mount. If your angle grinding the frame to fit(which is most likely) DON'T be too stingy. Not enough space between the shock coil and swinging arm will result in a squeaking noise as it rubs.End result is it'll get annoying and you'll need to remove shock and grind slightly again(DOH!)

drabbit17

Thanks fetor56.. I'll ask the seller that and try to get a good deal.

EdChen

Definitely double check on the spacer. I'm not positive, but it doesn't look like the spacer is in there, I think it usually stays in the triangular metal bracket.

Thanks Edchen and Fetor56 for the help.

I just have one more doubt.

There are a few shocks on ebay and the cheapest one cost like $50, but doesnt come with the linkage. You can see it in the link below.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261997604853?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

So for what I've read, what I need is the spacer, bolt and nut from the R6 and the spacer goes where I mark with red on the picture attached? is this right?  if so.. is this the right part that I will need to buy?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-90387-127W0-00-90387-127W0-00-COLLAR-/181752859252?hash=item2a51508a74&vxp=mtr

The shock in the link above has less miles than the other ones. The other two links that you guys send me are pretty nice and comes with the linkage, but they have more miles on it. Its cheaper to buy the $50 +  $9 of the collar, and it already comes with the bolt and nuts. If I have to buy one that comes with the linkage I will do it, but Im trying to get a good shock with few miles.

I'm sorry for any mistake with my writing, Spanish is my first language.

I want to buy the shock the next few days since it takes more time to get to Costa Rica where I live and mine is already leaking and bouncing a lot.

Thanks again for the help.

Have a great weekend!

For some reason I cant attached pictures so i added to my dropbox.

I think you got it exactly! I double checked with this old thread: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=52334.0 and you have the right part number for the spacer.

I don't know how much shipping will end up for you, but if you have a local Yamaha dealer, you might be able to have them order it and pick it up for cheaper.

And, honestly, if you didn't say anything, I wouldn't even have thought that English wasn't your first language!

drabbit17

Edchen, thanks so much for the quick response.. I will be buying both things so I can make the upgrade on my bike. A friend of mine will bring it to Costa Rica so it will save me some money.

Does the spacer goes where I stated on the picture?

Did you make this upgrade on your gs? was it a good idea? does it bounce less than the original one? have you driven with someone on the back?

Thanks for the lenguage comment. My wife is from the states so I've been practicing a little more my english.

EdChen

Yep, it fits exactly where you indicated. What you'll do is remove the spacer that is in your bike right now, at that location, and the new spacer will slide in perfectly.

I did do this on my GS. I honestly haven't spent much time tuning it, or critically riding. So far, it has been a modest improvement. I haven't had a passenger on it yet. Although, I imagine my rear shock on my 2001 probably doesn't have as much wear as your 1995.

If you haven't already, though, I think the best improvement you can do is to replace the front springs. It made a huge difference in handling, especially on bumps where I would bottom out all the time.
