Any one ever try to mod the taper of the jet needle on a gs, either on a lathe or bush style in a drill. I have a pipe and k&n lunchbox and this mid range bogging in every gear is breaking my balls. My mechanic says "put a dyno jet kit in it" but there has to be another way. Is there another mikuni needle we can use instead of the dynocrap one?
No matter what i do to it, it's still a GS
It's not how fast your bike is, it's how long you are prepared to hold the throttle on.

Big Rich

I don't recall anybody trying it, but that doesn't mean much. Might be a good idea to contact Mikuni directly?
83 GR650 (riding / rolling project)

It's opener there in the wide open air...

I have been searching the net and cant find a listing for 5DH needles on any of the mikuni sights. Perhaps its a suzuki only needle. I'll keep looking, thanks Rich.

Dude no one has to modify the needle, cos we jet it with that needle.
Lunch box and pipe - yea slam dunk, 40/150 for 89-00 or 20/147.5/65 (optional) for 01+.
Anyway a jet pack I sell is $25 shipped in US.

Cool.

Yes i know how you guys do it buddha, but she is lean in the mids. I think fuel here in oz in different to the states I think (so i have been told) so the jetting set up is going to be different for us aussies. I have changed the needle position but it wont get rid of this small flat spot. It's defiantly the needle taper IMO. My main is 135 and its perfect at WOT, 150 seems awfully big. Ill' keep on tinkering. I have ordered 42.5 pilots. Thanks for the input.

You're fine @wot with 135 mains ???
You already have a DJ style needle or you likely have a very very high float.
If you're 4-6 mm above the gasket face, you're high enough to be flooding into the airbox on acceleration.
Cool.
