^^ This! Except dont run the setup directly on the wires, run the switch wire for a relay setup to run the cam and monitor setup. Much safer than running directly on the brake wires.

Thanks Nighthawk, I agree, great idea.  I dont know the current demand of this product monitor and camera combined.  I am a big fan of relays, being the owner of an old italian car with electrical gremlins.

cages commonly had FI before motorcycles as well. this is not really a sign of the manufacturers viewing it as useful. it is likely more an issue of it it being financially useful. Rear cam systems are more abundant now, constantly cheaper and will likely find their way to bikes as a feature as soon as sufficient demand manifests.

the difference in distraction to me send to be in where the screen is mounted.

a rearview is just above eye level - a gauge or handlebar mount is further from the line of sight. One would need to exercise caution as would one with all of one's geegaws.

another alternative is an audible/visual rear-approach/proximity warning

the audible proximity warning sounds interesting, especially if it read someone coming in fast...not sure if that is possible.

I refer to my tach and speedo all the time.  I also look for my signal light as well.  Being a new rider, I sometimes forget to cancel it..which is really really bad.

I had the idea that putting the balls of my feet on the pegs was dangerous too, until I realized there is no need to cover the clutch pedal or the rear brake all the time.

I think it would be something to get used to.

Feller on the CX forum has investigated and experimented with this, tested rear view camera, and of course the issue is that the viewing screen is virtually illegible because of light situation.
(E.g. try viewing your iPhone screen in sunlight). Yes in a car it works because the screen is shaded from outside light, a bike is very different.
Waste of time.

Right now they're $1,400 but I'm sure the price will go down once competition enters the market.

Until I buy a 15K bike, I can not justify 1400 for a lid, I don't think...but stranger things have happened.

Wups hang on there. ... 1400 for a helmet is a LOT..  yes certainly!  .. but don't equate it to the value of the bike you own! ... it's the value of your head/body/life/mind/existence that is more important. ...

A 40 year old thrashed out dirtbike ridden around a farm does not mean you can only spend 50 on a helmet.

This year's model RSV4 with all the extras and a custom paintjob done by a naked Playboy model does not mean you must spend 3000 on a helmet!

Safety factor/strength,best fit, comfort, budget/price and features lastly .... are what you need to spend on your helmet to keep your brain safe inside your skull where it belongs! :thumb:
