Just curious if this is normal

Went to clean and lube my chain on the centerstand when I noticed this https://vid.me/1scG

Here is a daytime video from today: https://vid.me/0v4c

The second video is after I cleaned and lubed it. I couldn't find any seized links or atleast I don't think there are any. (If anyone has any tricks to finding them, let me know.)

If I increase throttle it will stop bouncing like that. So it's only at low rpms (Or idle but in first on center stand).

I know i've only really posted here for help, but I greatly appreciate it and hopefully when I get out of my "noobhood" with bikes I can return the favor.

I'm not positive, but I think it's fairly normal. As long as your chain tension is correct. Remember to adjust your chain tension on the side stand, if you adjust it on the center stand, it'll be too tight on the side stand. Also, I wouldn't recommend doing any cleaning or service while the bike is running, too much risk to pull your hand in.

Hah! I may be slow, but i'm not that bad. I wasn't actually cleaning it with the bike running. I turned it on to spray the chain while it was in motion after spraying it while it was off (I wanted to make sure to get everything).

I'm sure there is a guide to adjusting tension?

:D ... oh. ... remember... you did ask about correct chain tension!! ;) .... and now we wait!

You check for tight links by rolling the back wheel very slowly...by hand with the engine off!   Closely inspect each link as it passes, and also look at how each link engages onto the sprocket. A tight link will appear "bent" as it passes, and it will jump or fit poorly as it engages the sprocket.

Running the engine with the bike on the center stand shows nothing...and probably a really bad idea..

The chain is jumping around because the is little to no tension on it...also it is at it's loosest when on the center stand..

Get a manual...even the owners manual shows the correct chain tension and how to measure it.

With the bike on the SIDE stand...put a ruler or tape measure, vertically, midway between the front and rear sprocket.  Note where the center of a chain pin falls on your tape measure.  Press the chain DOWN firmly, but not like a gorilla..note this point on the tape...now push the chain UPWARD...firm not gorilla...

(It will go down a lot less than it will go up...normal)

The difference between the low point and the high point should be about 1".

0.8" ~ 1.2"  is the factory spec.  Better to go 1" to 1.2".  If the chain is on the tight side, you get noise from the front sprocket.

As Ed said...do not do this measurement while on the CENTER stand...the chain gets tighter with load on it...the spec figures the load of the bike, but without rider.
