Bump. Come on guys does somebodies got to have a spare nice rear brake rotor? Or maybe parting a bike that has one? It's gotta be in great shape though it's for a landspeed project. Ed

For a landspeed project... ok I understand budget constraints. .. but when extreme speed is involved I'd be looking at brand new perfectly balanced and mini-micro millimeter perfect discs! ... lightweight even for less rotational mass! ... braking from very high speed needs glassy smooth motion doesn't it? :thumb:

First rule of racing.. get the bike to the track! you can always make it pretty later (or lighter ect ect ect). A nice used great condition rear disc would be fine for right now, let me spend on much more pressing areas, and get the bike to the track.. I do appreciate the concern though. Ed

Well really if you're in that much of an ass tearing hurry you can get the one below for only 50 ish!? ... and it's new! ...with free shipping!... how much cheaper is a used one plus shipping, plus finding one fast enough? then shipping it time frame?

Landspeed record on a budget in a hurry? .. hmmm ;)

Ed maybe you can clarify something for me/us, The reason youre looking for a disc is to get TO a test track/salt flats or wherever youre planning on doing this, right? cause i know the braking system is a bit inefficient, that aside this going to be used for a baseline run of sorts? to figure whats next? this is where i myself am not clear in your intentions with the disc.

You guys are great, and honestly I appreciate the input. I hope I don't come across as a know it all because I try not to but I've been racing for while and do have a few landspeed records. This bike is only going to be working in the 150mph area, an area I am very familiar with. My previous landspeed bike http://www.erlenbachracing.co had a stock rear disc and never gave me a bit reason to change it because like anything in racing it's "Dependant On Application" So 1) The speeds are only in the 150mph area, 2) in landspeed racing we've got lot's of room to slow down and 3) you can only brake so hard with the rear brake on a drylake bed before there's a loss of traction anyway and of course if it proved to be too weak in testing (but I honestly don't think it will be) I can always upgrade. I would like oem because I appreciate their quality but it would have to be in good shape obviously and the oem new price is just insane. If not I'll look elsewhere but I thought I'd check with my friends here first since I do ride a GS500!
And JanX101 A racer that's not in a hurry is.. well.. second.. and never knock budget racers some of the finest tuners, builders, and fabricators I've known have been privateers..  Ed
You can follow the build here if you like http://erlenbachracing.co/RD250_LandSpeed_project.htm

Not knocking privateers! Or yourself either!

But apart from what avail in the for sale threads. .. I just have trouble imagining someone letting a great qual disc go..  that's all. :thumb:

What's up with your current one? Under spec for a lathe job?

Free bump for a rotor!

Ed, I've always been interested in your work. If I'm not mistaken, the weight of a land speed isn't as important as the aerodynamics. Since you have a pretty good distance to get up to speed, the weight isn't a big deal...

And Ed: I'm sure you know already, but you can use a Katana rear rotor on a GS wheel. I think the Katana rotor has a slightly larger diameter (5-10mm?), so using the Katana caliper mount is required.

Good luck with your project buddy!
