Why are you looking here?

Vacuum chamber for shooting lasers into.

Elmojo

Very very close. In fact, I'm almost inclined to call it.
Let's try one more pass to see if we can nail it down just a bit more.
It is indeed for "shooting lasers into", but it's not vacuum inside.
Why would you shoot a laser into a sealed ball? What would be the purpose?
A huge hint is that this device performs no actual 'work', per se.
You don't use a laser to heat it up to boil water, for example.
However, if you have a fairly high-powered laser, you'd be very interested in using this device, at least once...
Any of this help?

Oh crud, I just went back to scan old guesses, and I just realized that mennobike just about had it, and I totally missed his guess somehow!
Guys, I'm really sorry!
I screwed this one big time. I'm calling it over.

It's an integrating sphere for measuring the total output power of a CO2 laser. This particular one is rated for a laser in the 3KW range.
It's not mine, and I have no personal experience with it, so I can't provide much more detail than that.

Ok menno, take it away. Hopefully you'll do a better job of moderating the next round than I did.  :technical:

:woohoo: Looks like this education I'm getting is actually useful for something! Although my guess wasn't really that close..

Let me take a look, in any case!

can't remember how to resize pictures :technical:, here's the link. http://i.imgur.com/B3XbUma.jpg
I'll have no idea what piece you're referring to unless you include one of the following: Doobly doo, thing-a-ma-jigger, or dibbledy dop.

That is the base of an espresso maker :)

Elmojo

Specifically, a Cuban stovetop espresso maker. :)
Oh man, does that make good brew!
Makes me wanna go dig mine out and try to remember how to work it...

Good job lucas, now hit us with something good and tricky!

You know, that didn't quite sound like I'd hoped.  :-[

Its harder than I thought it'd be to come up with something good.

mennobike

:technical: :technical: Ya dang coffee snobs, thought that was a good one!

Good job though, quick guessing!

Lucas, can't see your picture, got a direct link?

Isn't everything just a more or less fancy drill bit, though?

Janx101

Looks like a router bit for cutting flush surface channels for electric cables? ... I've seen one used but don't know if there is a special name apart from 'ball bit' ?

Watcher

Round die-grinder bit.  Or as the guys at my machine shop would call it, a "round burr".

Watcher's got it.  At my work they call it a lollipop file.

Rocker switch top for a electric window?

Watcher

No.  It's not electrical at all.

Hint time!

The top (away from the key) is shaped very specifically.  It's curved on the side towards the camera, and more or less flat on the other side, but is shaped pretty much like a triangle.

mennobike

is it a switch (non electircal)?

Watcher

Not a switch at all.

You don't push it, it does the pushing.
