And I have a feeling it's going to turn into an addiction...

Ok, maybe it's not a "high end", high end watch, it's just a Citizen with Eco-Drive.  But it's a step up for me who's had Timex grade watches for his whole life until now.

This is what I got:

And I got a pretty good deal on it.  Store had it on sale and while I was there I got offered an additional percentage off.  Walked out with it for about $119.  Amazon has it listed for around $140.  Turns out department stores CAN beat online prices!

I got a promotion at work, and it's a position that would have me wearing nicer shirts and ties on the weekends instead of the standard-issue polo shirts everyone else has to wear (I still can "down dress" and wear the polos during the week).  I didn't own any ties, or any slacks, or a nice belt, and in comedic timing my at the time current watch broke.  The lock pin on the bracelet snapped off so the bracelet was useless, and the watch was getting kind of scratched up anyway since the anodizing on the case was thin (it was a $40 Armitron, what do you want?).
Got my first check at the new pay rate, with some overtime mixed in for good measure, and I went on a shopping spree!
Got some pants, got some shirts, got some ties, and got a belt for work.  Then I went watch shopping for myself!

Wanted something that was nice enough to wear with a shirt and tie, but still casual enough for a t-shirt and jeans; something I could wear every day regardless of attire. Most of what I saw was either way too simple for my taste, too casual, too fancy, or just way over budget.  I wanted to keep it under $200 for sure, as close to $100 as possible.
I think I did alright.  It's not fancy by any stretch, but I think it still has a sort of classiness to it with the black on stainless color scheme.  I certainly like looking at it.  I think it looks like a gauge, like an airplane altimeter or something.  Maybe it just reminds me of my past job turning dials and counting numbers as a machinist.
My friend, who is a self proclaimed watch snob, says it's an aviators watch and the minutes being displayed on the outside of the face rather than the hours is because it's easier to tell how long you've been up in the air that way.  I don't really care about that, I just think it's a cool looking watch.  It has technicality to it with the minutes, 12/24 hours, multiple exposed dates, and hatch marks all crammed in it.  But at the same time I don't think it's very complex, I actually find it rather simple.

The issue is, now I want more.  This watch fits the bill as an all purpose for now, but I kind of want one that is a little more elegant.  I'm thinking I might get a cloth band for this one and make it my casual watch, look for something with a similar style but maybe a little simpler for business professional, and maybe even get another for if I want to be full on classy.
On the whole, I think I'm going to end up spending way too much money on this.  Just like I did when I got into Spyderco knives...

YUP. ive ha d several ecodrives.and moms tag heuer. i made good money servicing the eco drive capacitors. ( as a watchmaker myself,  if youre not going to be wearing it for a while, set it out insunlight for a while, to charge the capacitor ;)

Do the eco-drive caps need servicing often?

I didn't read anything about a service interval in the manual, just a stated 5-year warranty.

Menno, i could take a look at it  but will wait until this surgery is done next wed... i have to see whats wrong with left hand as well. ( having both available at nearly full capacity kinda helps , but sure would be willing to see what can be done. :).
i do like this eco. i had its bigger brother it was a chronograph it had to be programmed. not set programmed/calibrated. that manual by itself is HUGE. once i calibrated it ,I wore that thing pretty much constantly. CODS has it now.

my ecodrive failed after a year... i think water got into it. First the crystal cracked but it still worked..no water intrusion ever..  but it failed soon after diving into the ocean in bali in february. so something happened.. when i looked at it later, it seemed water went in through the time adjuster crown.. it is now 4 weeks since i dropped it off for service. I have the JCP warranty, so they will either fix or replace. It was about 250 (mine). So I look forward to buying a new watch when it doesnt get fixed. I am currently back to my casio solar digital watch..

Joining the Citizen Eco-Drive club here. I was planning on buying a Seiko that was around $110, having owned watches of similar price. I have/had Wengers and a Victorinox. The Wengers that I've had, for some reason, seem to not hold up very well. The Victorinox, on the other hand, has lasted for many years - might help that it's older?

Anyway, blah blah blah. They're closing a Macy's mall location here in GA and everything was deeply discounted. I found this watch for $175 where it normally retails for $375. The cheapest price I could find online was $290, so I feel like I did pretty well.

As i had suggested if not worn for an extended period of time, ( or if kept in a dresser drawer in dark) it will stop. just expose to sunlight or roomlight and youre good to go it will restart. not uncommon for the capacitors in these to last 10yrs. not bad mileage for a $20cap. at all :) plus if it fails within warranty period, citizen will replace it. ;)

I stopped wearing watches during the Reagan administration but I joined the Eco-Drive club when my father passed away two years ago.  It's titanium and waterproof to 200 meters.  It glows in the dark.  It's so nice I don't dare sell it even though I almost never wear it.
