I'm pretty happy with how the headlight has turned out. Had it coated as well. I don't have anything against chrome, I just personally have never liked it, so I had the outer ring coated in chrome silver.

Mr Fink, you do some good work. I saw this thread a while ago and got distracted before commenting on it.

Keep it up man!

I cleaned up the gauges while I had them apart.

My next project is a new left side engine emblem. Bought a sheet of copper from the hardware store. I thought this Japanese coin would look cool too.
It's not done but you get the idea.

Whoa, that's rad! Awesome work on the copper, and the coin tops it off nicely. Planning on using epoxy to hold the coin on?

Thank you sir. Yes either epoxy or that moulding adhesive.

Ok folks, a few updates. Things are still moving slowly, especially with winter. I've found small things to work on and keep me busy. Here is a small project Im working on currently.

I've also taken the top end of the engine off. Seeing how the engine hasn't ran for 13 years or so, I figured I better check things out. All looks well, I'll just replace gaskets valve seals and o-rings and call it good.

Good stuff Mr Fink. How do you do the etching? Dremel with a diamond stone?

And will the engine be getting new Piston rings, circlips, etc? I'm sure you already know, but I just want to mention it to be on the safe side: when you go thru the service manual there are a couple things that need replaced when the engine is apart.

Thanks Rich. Yeah I use either dental burrs or round cutting tools with the Dremel.
As for the engine, yeah I'll also replace the rings and circlips. Anything else you would recommend? I'm no mechanic, so any advice would be great, I do have the service manual though.

Ah, ok. I've done a little Dremel work before and it kills my hands after a bit.

But anyways, here's what I recommend for the engine: Use OEM gaskets wherever possible - cheaper aftermarket ones tend to weep oil. The base gasket can't be reused, nor can the head gasket. Those copper washers under the cylinder stud nuts should be replaced too. I can't remember - are you using the original tachometer? If not, the tach drive gear is easy to take out while the engine is apart. I saw you mentioned new valve seals (good idea), but I'd spring for new carb boots along with the orings that fit under them. After 13 years, you just don't know what has dried out.....

I think everything else is pretty well covered by the service manual. If you reuse the piston rings, measure the gaps first and look into getting a quick hone on the cylinder walls. May as well do it once, right?
