Hello all,

I just signed up for the board this morning, though I've used it quite a few times as a guest in the past, so I first want to thank everyone for the useful information you have provided.  :)

Second... I couldn't find a very recent thread on this, so I'm starting this one (related somewhat to this old thread).  If anyone needs to replace the colored dash indicator light covers, I can make available the 3D CAD file I used recently to have some 3D-printed (in translucent red, orange, a few flavors of green, blue, and clear).  I've been asking $10 for a set of four (shipping included), just because the process takes some time on my father's part (he's the one with the 3D-printer).  Obviously, if you'd like more or fewer, we'll work it out.

PM, email, or post here.  I can't attach the CAD file, so if someone wants it, email/PM me and I can send it.
Note: mine don't have the "tabs" that prevent the one type from being used in another hole (e.g., the high-beam vs oil-low), and you'll want to use an adhesive/epoxy to fix them in place.

The red and orange (and one of the greens) don't have terribly "deep" coloring (IMHO), so they won't be exactly like the originals.  See images below.  :)

Sweet you saw my reply in your other thread.  I just got done reading through that old thread you linked to... I had no idea that one even existed (it was way before I got here lol).

I myself like the colored ones (I have been known to be very old-fashioned at times!) but the clears mentioned in that thread with colored LED's behind them is a more with-the-times idea and sounds fun too.

Great work and I am glad ya posted.  Hopefully it will help some people out!  :thumb:

I got a set of these from Paul's dad a week ago, finally got around to installing them with LEDs.
The lens fits in beautifully, but I neglected to glue in the first one for a test ride, and lost it on a turn (luckily I got two, and two orange as well) so make sure you do that.

Here are some shots. Exposure is down on the lit shot so you can see the relative translucency, although YMMV if you have standard bulbs.

If you could ship a couple these to the UK i'd love to get a few of those for my high beam! I've been putting up with a makeshift cover but it seems to have gone missing again (I'm sure somebody is just stealing them now) :bs:

Yes Please! I haven't had a high beam indicator in years. it'll be nice to swap out the piece of white electrical tape for something round. I'll shoot you a PM.

I'll take a full set 2x. Fer sure. I don't have a way to make them myself. PM me price and paypal info. Thanks.

Hey! Sent you a PM.. Although i see you mentioned something about a CAD file? any chance you could upload the file here?

I'm sure plenty of GS riders would really appreciate it!

Cheers!

I've got several colors now.  The red and orange aren't terribly "deep" colors, but they're not too bad.  I have a few "flavors" of green also.  Send me a PM and we can work out details.  I was asking $10 for a set of four, shipped (not so much because of the material cost, but more for my dad's time in 3D-printing).

I have photos, but when I try to post, I get an "upload folder is full" error.  Anyone know how to correct that?

I think the server/message board space got filled up. I've been using imgur and tinypic (although I think imgur keeps the pics online forever, while tinypic gets rid of pictures not viewed in 90 days).

Anyway, i'm a happy customer of these printed dash indicators. My oil and Neutral indicators are a warm white LED, the turn signal and high beams are incandescent. My high beam indicator was lost years ago, so I put in the new indicators there as a trial.

I'll probably be swapping out the high beam with a blue LED sometime soon to get a little more brightness. Either way, it looks better than a piece of electrical tape covering the hole! :)

Thanks, Paul and your dad!

(BTW, I did receive the subsequent trials, I just haven't had a chance to put them in and take pictures yet)

I know this is an old thread, but having bought some of these, i would like to leave a feedback.

They're just almost perfect, the only issue (not that much, really) is the red one, the color isn't a deep red but it works. The fit is perfect, i had to use a bakelite hammer to slide them in the holes, vibrations will have a hard time trying to make them slide out! Glue is recommended, such a small amount costs almost nothing :)
In the close up pic someone posted up there, it seems there is a lot of difference in shape and dimensions but having them in hands they're quite identical.

Paul is a nice person and it's been a pleasure "dealing" (i don't know if this is the right word, this isn't my native language, but i think you already noticed it lol) with him, he even added a couple more (i bought 2 sets and got 3) seeing me doubtful about going stock colors or all clears.
He patiently answered to all my questions and replied quickly to my mails and shipped within just a few days from payment.

I finally chose the all-clear style since i had some colored leds (from superbrightleds), and they're just perfect.
These leds are so bright they're almost "annoying" to the eye when it's dark lol.

Here are two pics

I'm definitely happy with them!

Wow that looks really clean!!! I like it and I'm also happy this thread got bumped... this forum rocks

I know the OP hasn't been active on here since last September so if you don't get a reply here, try sending him a PM. Fingers crossed he can still help you and any other people out!

Hey all, New to owning a GS500 & in Australia. These missing dash light covers have driven me crazy as all i can find till now, is a full dash instrument cluster purchase to get these little plastic jewels.
If i must replace the entire cluster with a complete mod it'll be less troublesome, but i am hoping the CAD or sale of these may possibly, potentially be still accessible.
My last resort is a party/ costume chain that MIGHT have something i can fashion into these now exposed holes. Any help appreciated all, to Paul if you are out there, well.. DM me.. Thanks GSTwin for the forum, this was my reason for finding your helpful & uniquely resourceful site. Cheers

Hi all... sorry, I don't get around to viewing the forum a bunch.  Please do PM me or send an email directly to me at pauladams11@gmail.com (hope it's OK to post my address here).  I can mail you a set or whatever you need, in a variety of colors.  Also, if you are in Australia, I sent some extras to VolatileDais, so you should contact him so you don't have to pay for the expensive international shipping.

VolatileDais

Hi all, I am happy to take emails directly to Christopher.koot@gmail.com for Australian GS500 riders out there. Less they are all gone, I will accept requests from riders in Oz no matter how far into the future you are reading this. Thanks again for the effort Paul, truly appreciate the community spirit on here.

Big thanks to Paul.  He sent me set of dash light covers a couple of years ago. I only needed and installed the blue lens for the "Brights".  It fit great in my 2002 GS500.  The color was not perfect - a little purplish - but this is way better than an open hole.

Now I've replaced my dash lights (oil/neutral/bright/speedo/tach/ but not turn indicator) with LEDs - will post more about that in another thread. I used a blue LED for the brights and now the color looks perfect.

I think I figured out why I "lost" the brights lens (and why others often lose the Oil lens).  When the rubber mounts on speedo and tach  shrink or wear over time, the instruments get a bit loose in the housing. When you hit a bump, these instruments come hammering down on the lenses (which are right at the 6 o'clock position).  I guess this helps knock the lenses out.  I added some flat washer spacers on the bolts holding the speedo and tach in place.  Now they are a little tighter and not wobbling/ hammering as much.  PS: use stainless or plastic washers so you don't get stains.   And while I was at it, I put some new chrome plated cap nuts on these bolts as the originals were a bit worn/sandblasted.

A big thank you to Paul.
He sent me some covers to Germany, and they are awesome. Look good and the fit pretty well.

Thank you! Good work.

Due to the high shipping cost, i have some lenses left for biker here in Europe. If you need some, please ask Paul or write a Message.

Best regards
Matthias
