I'm going to try a pair of Philips 1157 P21/5W Red X-tremeVision LED bulbs in the tail/brake light but unfortunately they are all red which means I'll need to purchase a separate light for the license plate. Can anyone give me any tips or things I need to be wary of regarding wiring in some little light. Why 'tips' I mean what wires do I tap into, or is there a better way to do this. It's a late model 2010GS

First - check out the motorcycle 1157 bulbs from superbrightleds.com...... they have red leds pointing backwards but white leds pointing out the sides. Just an option.

If you want to wire in a separate light though, I'd recommend some "led license plate bolt" lights. The wires on the bike are brown for positive, black / white for negative.

Check the cost and difficulty  (hassle) of each option - I would go with new 1157 bulbs from the site above.

I,like many other motorcycle riders successfully run Red LED's with no problem and problem from the cops.I also use the module Back Off XP with my lights and i'm in Oz.
What's your concern?

@BR, I did check those out but it seems that they really weren't going to give me the large increase that I am wanting. I was recommended to try the Genuine Honda (34906-SL0-A01) 12V Bulb, as a brighter standard bulb, that brings the lumens of the brake light from 400 to 500, and may possibly be better than the superbrights, but it's still less than what I wanted.

The Philips claim 5 x brighter and they do appear to do what I want which is basically to make my brake light as bright as possible during daylight hours.

@Fetor, what State are you in. I'm in QLD. So you only have red LED's as the illumination for your license plate? I was thinking that I'd try to get away with it as I mainly ride during the day, but that if I did come to some grief and the LED's really were a lot brighter, then I'd add a separate light to illuminate the license, which I will do as soon as I ascertain whether these Philips taillights work well. I sort of do a manual modulation with the brake lights anyway, I never brake without glancing into my rear vision mirror first and if there is anyone behind me I'll always flash my brake lights.

I'm in SA,and yes i only use the red LED's as the illumination for my license plate.
3 years riding my Naked bike around(with a LED driving light ON aswell, next to the headlight) and i have never been stopped or even closely scrutinise by the fuzz.
Since i'v been hit in the rear twice by ppl in cars NOT paying attention i'm keen on the XP preventing a third.
These LED's are great,VERY bright.Their Red but overly Red....more of a pale/washed-out Red.

Ha, I threw up the cree on the candlepower forum and was promptly slapped down for posting a link to a 'dangerous and illegal' product, and they removed the link too. I took it on the chin. But they do know their LED's there and I know Philips make good H4 bulbs so I'll see how they go.

What I meant was that they suggested the Philips and I went back to ask about the Cree from 'autolumination.com', *before* you posted about the cree. I probably would have given the cree a go had I seen your post but I had already purchased the Philips a couple of days ago. This is the link I posted on candlepower forum that got them very upset... http://www.autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm I'm not sure what the difference is between that and the Chinese ones on ebay. If not for the candlepower people spooking me, I prolly would have gone for the amber model in the above link. Amber because it will work with the red filter and would throw a brighter light down to the license plate. But at the same price as the philips or more than the philips, I went with that. Do you reckon there's a difference between the Cree I linked to and the Chinese ones with regards to quality of LEDs?
