Hey guys thought I would share my CAD model for a custom oversized speedo/tach combo dial. My gauge cluster has been totally ratchet since the day I got the bike and I've finally decided to do something about it.

I'm planning on getting the enclosure 3d printed locally and I'll get the bracket fabbed out of aluminum (1/4inch plate), as long as it doesn't threaten to take my rent payment. Not sure how to machine the bezel without it costing a fortune so I might end up 3d printing that too.

One thing I'm not sure on is what colour to make the indicators (hence why theres four empty holes in the bracket). Not sold on the needles either if I'm being honest but I think the dial turned out really solid.

Let me know what you think!

Wow, that thing is super clean! I'd love to have that on my bike since my instruments are in bad shape as well. Very nice.

I think the needles are fine, really. No need to make them more complicated than they need to be, yeah?

Why not go for standard indicator colors (red, green, blue)?

Damn that looks clean AF. Nice work.

I agree with this. Needles are fine and standards colours are the way to go.

Thanks guys!

I think I'm with you both on standard colours, although I don't really like the look of the weird semi-crystal look of the stock lenses. I think I'll look into another material there, any thoughts?

Currently Pricing out the whole build but if comes in at a decent price maybe I'll look into building a couple with an instructable to ship out after I get the first prototype tweaked.

ShowBizWolf

I totally agree, that design is very sharp. Great look!

I like the idea of going with classic colors for the indicators... BUT

...another route you could go is all clears with colored bulbs. I am remembering this being done in another thread recently and I thought it looked super clean. Lemmie find it...

Hey hey, that sounds awesome! I sure the readers here would enjoy that. I know I would!

As far as lenses, perhaps you could find some smooth concave indicator lenses of the colors you desire, or as ShowBizWolf suggested, clear ones. That way they'd focus the light and look sharp to boot, just a thought.

To the OP.  You can embed the pictures in your post by using the img tag (the button with a tiny Mona Lisa, in the text editor) and pasting in the url of the image.

I really like the ideas of clear with coloured LEDS actually and I'm thinking flat acrylic inserts would be really sharp if I make them flush with the bracket or concave(vex?) like Iarn suggested (Concave would be odd if I'm thinking about it but maybe cool?). I think I might have to grab both to test for what it'll cost.

Yah the uploader was complaining that the post was too big with the pictures because of the server being busy or something. All the images were well below the limit but after I tried twice I decided to forget it haha.

Yeah I meant you can embed images in your post by hitting that Mona Lisa button and pasting the imgur link between the img tags.

or if you like to type, can use the tags.
