I just bought it on the 5th and when I went to go pick it up from the previous owner and he started up the bike just fine.

- Fast forward I get the bike home try and start it but it fails to start.
- Battery at 11V charge it with my unstarted car.
- Got it to start, popped the center stand down, and let go of the clutch too fast and it dies.
- Couldn't start it back up.
- Friend came over and pop started/ push started it. It starts making loud banging noises and the rpm meter gets shot and doesn't read anything. I hit the kill switch.
- Currently just replaced the battery to 13.4V and it still won't run just makes a single clicking noise
- Ok a friend took it apart and found out the starter motor sounded like a maraca so I went to the shop to get the part replaced thinking it was bad.
- Replaced it put the new one in got it to start up and 10 seconds later it stops running.
- Turns out the bike ate the brand new starter motor.
- Take that back find out that the part isn't under warranty somehow.
- Then I talk to the guy who runs the mechanic shop and he tells me that the starter motor was running at a different rpms then the engine was running at causing the gears in the starter to be shredded.
- So here I am two weeks later down close to $400 with a bike that runs when pop started and can shift through all the gears but can't be started normally.

Anybody that has the slightest idea of how to fix the motorcycle please help. I'm on the verge of just pouring gasoline on it and lighting a match.

Also What does the fuel line and air box connect to?

If the starter motor got chewed up in that short amount of time, I'd look at the starter clutch - it's under the left side engine cover (and you'll need a new gasket). Once the starter spins the motor to life, the starter clutch is supposed to disengage. If it doesn't..... your starter is basically connected to the crankshaft.

As far as the loud banging noise..... hopefully it was just unburnt gas igniting in your exhaust. Was it a mechanical bang, or something else?

And those questions go away after your 5th post. Welcome to the site and good luck!

Yea Big rich is 100% ... and we have a name for this around here - you got a starwalt's syndrome (or is that disease ???)

Either way - in his case - a tiny fragment of the alternator rotor got into the starter clutch, and locked it up and that got the starter spinning @ like 30,000 rpm and destroyed it

I'd chalk it down to pure bad luck, cos it likely happened on the ride over to your house.

In 99% of starter failures you can clean and re build the starter. Brushes and some light cleaning will get it working. Except in this case.
Which is why it always is beneficial to try to open up the thing and look at it.

Open up the left, yank out the alternator rotor, examine the starter clutch and the rotor too ... and replace all of those questionable parts. You only need new starter clutch innards once you clean it all out. All the rest are perfectly OK to use from a lightly used parts pile (someone round here oughta have those).
Cool.
