I have no idea man. I want to say that's something aftermarket (HID conversion maybe?).

I have got to remember to look at the picture when I get home... I'm at work and photobucket doesn't load on these computers so I can't see the picture.  :technical:

I had my headlight all torn apart a year or two ago and took lots of pics... maybe I can compare your picture to mine and see if I have any ideas.

Ok so now that I've seen your pictures, I have NO idea what that would be.  :icon_sad:  I don't remember anything like that when I had my headlight apart.

I looked through my pictures and this is the most helpful one I found... it was when I replaced the rubber thing and put my headlight back together...

BUT then I got to thinking more and I'm like, "Well that's not going to help much..." so I went to motosport.com and looked up 2001 GS500 (which is the year of your bike according to your sig) and looked for the headlight diagram and found this so you can see what parts you should have (and shouldn't !)

Where exactly did that thing come from? Like did it go over the bulb or ?

This chick is super curious...

It's a shield to prevent a hot-spot in your headlight.
It's not needed with modern halogen bulbs because they have painted 'shield' on the bulb itself.
And as Big Rich already mentioned they are also used with HID conversions (also hot-spot prevention)
