Well, i'm off in the desert now.  I have been missing riding like crazy.  Before I left my wife and I took a ride on the 'ol gs500 for the first time together.  I'm 6ft 3 220, and shes 6ft 1 160.  Needless to say it was more comfortable then i thought, to a point, but a heck of a lot slower too.  The suspension was mushy and honestly, i wouldn't want to go very far on it.

We have been talking and she has ridden on bikes since she was a little girl and she gave me the approval to get a bigger, faster, more comfortable bike when i get back this fall.   Well i was thinking about either of these two.  I will use it primarily in the black hills, and on about 700+ mile road trips prolly once a month.  Just looking for opinions.

I am hoping to get the Sv1k this august.

I have ridden 2 of them, and I cant get enough of all that torque.

By the way, not sure if you realize this, but there is a HUGE power difference between the Sv1k and the Cbr1K.

The Sv makes 111.2 hp @9000rpm's and 70.7ft lbs torque @ 7500rpm

Cbr makes 172 hp and I cant seem to find the rest of the #'s.

The Sv is a torque monster and I would say very good for riding 2 up and signifigantly more comfortable than the Cbr

The Cbr is more geared towards being a race bike, with race bike ergoes.

but it all comes down to what you really want. Also the Cbr is about 3grand more.

I'm not sure they are right. Unless they are going by crankshaft hp. The CBR1000RR makes 148 to the rear wheel. I thought the SV1000S made about 100 to the rear wheel, but I could be wrong about the SV. I would choose the SV though only because thats my dreambike right now. Good luck on your decision.

The 2004 Honda CBR1000RR has 172 hp and weighs 179kg.... so that's a lot of power per kilo.... if you can handle it that is.... Don't know how much of that actually reaches the wheel, but I guess a lot

The older models had less hp I believe.

Thats an understatement.  It is factory race ready.  You don't want a rr for 2 up comfort.  You're comparing a marginal performing liter twin to one of the fastest bikes on the market.  Have you seen the Honda VFR?

Yea the numbers I put up are # from the factory, so I guess tyhat means that the are at the crank.

the wife is going to have to learn to ride if you get a cbr1000.

the only thing approved for the rear of a race rep is 98 pounds and wearing a g-string :mrgreen:
