Hi to everyone  I'm new to the board

Basic facts:  bought a bike with 57,000km on it. 
Completed the  following myself :                    ( learning a lot cause I'm a rookie )
Sonic Spring .85 installed up front
Rebuilt carbs  jetted 137.5 on the mains
Adjusted valve lash to within spec
Installed K&N large oval air filter (maybe you guys call it a lunch box ??)
Installed all new gas lines and vent hoses
Flushed brake and bleed through fresh DOT 4 fluid

Got it all together.   Heated my little work shed.   Started good.
Warmed it up set the idle screw to roughly 1500 rpm.
Ran good in the shed. 
Put all the body on and went for a ride !   My very first one on it
Gears and clutch were good.

Riding along engine won't Rev higher than 5000 rpm in any gear.....
Ride about 6 km and the engine just dies while going 60km/h like someone hit he kill button.
Try to restart......turns over but won't fire up....even though engine is toasty   ( and no I didn't hit it

No idea where to start on this guy's! !! 

I greatly appreciate  any experienced feed back on what could be the problem.

Ran out of gas? Either the tank is empty, fuel line clogged up, etc.... or you have a fuel starvation issue (gas tank vent, carb vent, etc)

When the engine just died did u put the petcock on Prime(PRI) and try restarting?

Thanks for the ideas.  I figured the gas lines should be good since they are all brand new.....and I installed a stainless mesh fuel filter between the tank and peacock.
However I never thought about the venting .....

... stainless mesh filter... does it have any air gap in it? Air could bubble into lines and carbs upsetting fuel flow? .. these bikes can play up with extra inline filters.. it needs to be suitable for gravity fed setup!.. also how fine is the mesh? Because there is some REALLY fine mesh on the thingy inside the tank that is over the fuel pickups! .

Not everyone that installs an extra filter has issues but a reasonable number do!

Is only one cylinder firing perhaps?

replaced the OEM cap on my tank and it was part of the reason my 96 was starving. its a silly thing, but no air in = no fuel out. quality of life once you swap to keyless cap anyway.

What did you use for your replacement fuel cap
An OEM or aftermarket ??

If it was an aftermarket could you tell me what brand or type it was ?  Was it vented at the cap itself or did you continue to use the in tank vent which vents down to bottom of engine?

Got it of amazon for like $30 from gascapdude or something. And it does have a vent hole in it

I actually tried doing 137.5 on mine too and I had the exact same problem. I just put my old jets back on until I could figure out online what to do.

Try removing the filter and see if that fixes the issue.
