I'm new to motorcycles and looking to pick up a cheap one to learn on, Saw a GS500 in my price range, and in my area. Think this is any good? Almost picked it up right when I sat on it, but thought I'd do some research. Has 34k miles, If I can remember, and it's going for $1895, a bit much?

"The Punisher"  :D

Oh NO!  I get beat up by the stock seat bad enough as it is if I don't brace before braking hard.  I can't imagine how I could keep from going cross-eyed riding that monstrosity.

Y'all remember this fella?

Looks like this is the same person:

I inquired about what happened to the carbs. He responds, "I took the carbs off, fell asleep."  :nono:

I'm tempted to pick it up and repaint it something decent.  :embarassed:

About 30 miles west of NYC. 2,078 miles. Seller claims the tank is rust free, though carbs weren't drained before storage.

With my GS back in the collection(and back for sale) I've seen a couple other gs' that have caught my eye. This one has no photos and a stated bad engine, but going for a steal! Especially if the fairings aren't thrashed.

If I end up doing the yamaha RD engine swap on my current gsF- I'll likely pick up something like this^ and swap my good engine into it to resell. I'm getting to the point in life that I don't want to ever have to break a bike for parts again. So now all my pipe dream projects have side set projects to cobble together what's left into another running two wheeler

Shoot, I wish something like that would show up around here.... I have a GS engine missing camshafts, but I do have a GR650 engine I could stuff in.
83 GR650 (riding / rolling project)

It's opener there in the wide open air...

This fella is out in San Jose, CA. Just lowered the price from $700 to $650 last night. haha

I'd pick it up if I had the space and capitol.

Sounds like they just need to tighten the clutch cable....
