I've just taken the fuel take and air filter off the bike.  I've got a couple of black tubes that don't seem to be hooked up to anything.  First time I have done anything with the bike.  Off hand anyone know of tubes that don't get hook up, like some sort of over flow line?

Yes there are a couple hoses that are for drain only. One is connected to the bottom of the gas tank. One is connected to the bottom of the airbox.

If you don't have one already, get a Haynes/Clymer shop manual for your year GS500. It will include the diagram that includes all the hose routing. If you have a GS with the PAIR system (2nd Air parts fiche) it multiplies the number of hoses you need to follow.

Off hand I can think of 4 such hoses that were on my 97 and 02 GSs, later F models could have more.

The 3 hoses that hang down by your right foot are air box drain, gas tank filler drain, and battery vent hose.  Also a line runs back from the top tee on the carbs to hang down open between the air box and battery box.  Improper placement of this vent can cause high speed running problems.
