Bought battery off eBay, just cheap one but shows the correct voltage, but now the bike will only start via jump leads to a car... Battery has on it 11ah, more expensive battery's are about 14ah, will this be the reason it won't start? Thanks in advance

ah are like a measure of the maximum capacity of the battery.

The battery you have might have too few CCA, cold cranking amps, which is like the max electrical current that is available to be used during starting.

You might have a defective battery, care to share the link for the product you bought?  Curious to see it

was same that was in bike when I got it, I just typed code it to find it, it shows as 12/13 when bike is turned off, and 14v when it's running if I remember correctly

Did you charge it after adding the electrolyte?

Have you charged it all the way up?  If you have a volt meter you should measure about 12.5 volts across the terminals.

Have you filled the battery with the included acid to between the two fill lines?

You can take it to an auto parts store and have them test the functioning of your battery.  They could tell you if it is working or not.

These no-name batteries seem kind of expensive.  As long as they accept returns and you're willing to ship defective units back I suppose it's alright... But personally I have lost my patience with buying knock off products through ebay.  Saving a few pennies while costing me my sanity.

I've had it charged properly and all set up, voltage meter was giving out correct readings I got told, it turns over but just won't fire without a jump from a car

WATCH OUT: a lot of "GS500 compatible" batteries have the breather on the left instead of the right - they couldn't be faffed to check.
I bought a gel battery from Germany 3 years ago 'cos I was fed up to the back teeth with my acid battery not being up to scratch in Blighty's cold weather - it cost £50 quid but has NEVER let me down in THREE years and I've never recharged it either - buy cheap buy often, buy wise and grin :D ('speshly when it's effin freezing and you're late for work!) Do yourself a real, genuine, favour and buy a gel battery, seeeeeeriously...

BTW, I ride all year round, sun, snow, rain, sleet, ice, you name it - no choice 'cos no other wheels..
CANNOT afford to be off the road.

Thanks mate, I'll get this one if 175 cca is enough power

Just bin out to check - mine's a JMB10L-B2, can't remember spec but it had a pretty high cold crank rating.

Gel or AGM Batteries for the win!

If you need to start/run in very low temperatures a Lithium battery is not the best idea.
They work best at room temperature or higher. The CCA figure is "calculated" at room temperature, not tested at freezing.
Below 0C or 32F their performance drops off dramatically and they are reluctant to accept charge once running until they get warm. Have a read of the link below:

https://www.batterystuff.com/kb/articles/battery-articles/lifepo4-lithium-iron-powersport-batteries-cold-weather-performance.html

They have advantages but like most good ideas they also have disadvantages.
I am not saying don't buy one, just that the correct battery type for each bike depends on many variables.
