Is it normal to come back?

Mr. BIGGZ

Hey everyone,

Is it normal to come back to a GS? After 6 years of thinking about my first GS, I found myself longing for another one. In the summer of 2008, a buddy of mine wanted to sell his 2005 GS500F. I offered to sell it for him and ended up buying it. I rode it for about 2 years before selling it and I have been thinking about that little twin ever since.

Well I just bought a 2009 GS500F and I am back. I've owned several bikes R6, CBR 1000RR, R1, and the GS. I currently have a ZX6R, which I mainly use for trackdays, but I couldn't stop longing for the GS.

Is it normal to love this little twin so much?

I thought I liked mine so much because it's my first. What do you like about it compared to the others?

I came back. Still have my sportbike, but the GS500 made me enjoy riding again.

The GS500 is rough, crude, inconsistent from day to day based on temp, but it is versatile and I find it a blast to ride and more challenging than my sportbike.

I came back.

Started on a 04 GS500, 3 bikes later and I'm back on a GS500F.

It's simplicity it's what's great about it. Having a center stand is always great.

I have second the question MrBigg. What made you come back to an underpowered bike like the GS compared to your speed demons?

I loved my gs and it's actually kinda paining me to sell it....😢 but the whole time of having it I wanted something quicker haha. For me the reasons I don't want to get shot is, it's the most reliable bike I've ever owned, 1994 gs500 E. I used to thrash that old girl everywhere, flat out all the time and no matter what it would always still start no dramas, I mean I looked after it don't get me wrong always servicing and stuff like that, but it also taught me a lot about riding, feeling the bike and handling the power round tight corners and I think that's maybe the reason we all love these little things,

I think it's totally normal and I hope in a few years I have enough space for another one.
Hope you have much fun on your gs mate 😊

Congrats on the purchase and welcome back !!

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone.

Why did I come back to the GS? It's simple, in my opinion, the GS provides the purest riding experience. All of the sportbikes I've owned are track focused. The CBR 1000RR and R1 had a significant amount of power, which I was only able to utilize at "opportune" times living in the bay area.. The R6 and ZX6R have a good amount of power with better handling, that I was able to exploit more frequently.

The GS, ahhh the GS, makes me feel like it's all about me and the bike. The forgiving suspension, the ability to go wide open throttle without worrying about breaking traction or looping the bike, and simplicty of the motor and suspension is all very comforting. The bike is very basic and doesn't have the race technology, but it does have enough power to make you smile and ride around all day without being exhausted. Riding around on sportbikes after a few hours gets tiring.

I'll summarize with the old saying, "It's funner to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow."

Never a truer word said there mate 👍

The only thing I really miss from my GSXR is the suspension, but the crude GS500 suspension adds some drama to the ride.
