Currently have a gs500e on 40,000 miles and it seems to be burning 1L to 1.5L of oil within 300 miles but doesn't smoke or leak but it does get ridden very hard at times but surly that shouldn't make it burn oil this bad ?

It either smokes or leaks. That much oil is going somewhere. Oil can evaporate also but you'd have to be doing endurance racing to lose 1,5 l I that short a distance. Try this: what happens when you don't ride it that hard?

What oil are u using?

Pull the plugs out take some pics and show us them.
