OK guys here it is... the bars are cut, bent, and cut, the rods to be inserted have been cut and bent. They will pretty much fit together... I'll make sure of that. You'll need to weld, drill and maybe grind a little. A jig isn't absolutely neccesary... be nice, especially making large numbers... but 1 with no jig... no problem. Remember I made 1 and then jigged using that. If you have a welder, and a drill its a good way to save some $$$. I'll put up pics, and give you more details on the steps with pics tommorow. The real disadvantage... no powder coat. I will leave this open for the next few days. By Thursday July first... whoever wanted these... gets it, and thursday ~6pm... the pieces are getting welded up and becoming handle bars. The bars will be the rod inserted design, and as always I do stand behind it. The ones you buy and weld of course... not. But no biggie, any muffler shop can do the work. I also believe $22.50 is the upper limit. It will be 1/2 what the bar will be, before powder coating. I know I said $40... but that was the older set, where I limited my welder to the same $$$ as before, without rod, and he also felt bad about the bars breaking, he was happy to get a chance to redeem himself. Might samesome $$ and be back at 40, cos this time no paint needed. I'll let y'all know tommorow.
Cool.

They might be cut out of aluminum billet... I have to check with the machinist... The steel pipe and weld leaves too much weld in too small a space, and general crappy looks and un predictable fit are the result. The tubes are going to be steel with nuts welded in the ends of the bar, but the collar part has to be Billet... I think... I have a block of 6061 T6 that I am going to show my guy.

OK its $20 for the bar in a unwelded kit, you just need to weld, drill and grind, and paint I think... in that order. Pics and measurements follow... tommorow.
Cool.

OK pics are on page 20 of WOF. That basically is for those considering the make it yourself option.
Here are measurements too and in some cases I have measured and guessed what the center line distance will be... so its not set in stone... Also The ones I say are exact, dont have the assumption errors. the important ones for fit are exacts. So here goes... starting at the center on a 90-00 bar...
Center spread - Its that flat area in the middle between the clamps... 5.5 inches. Any less than 5 and you will have issues fitting it.
The forward bends... 1 1/2 inches forward and 2 1/2 inches on each side.
Spread from end to end on the leading tips on the center section of the bar... 10 1/2 inches.
The straight handle and grip parts - 9 inches minimum in length. From the forward points pull back is 6 inches to the end where bar ends go, effective pull back from the clamps in the triple 4.5 inches.
$20 for the bits you see in the pic. You will need to drill, weld and grind a little if needed.
The jig wont be needed if you are making just 1, more than that, and you want a jig.
Cool.

Can you build high rise bars? I made a block that raised my bars 2" and back 1 3/8, but it dosent look too good. I can buy a riser for about 100 buck. I can bar for as little as $20 but they don't have the right rise and back sweep.
Can I buy a 7/8 pipe and have a muffler shop bend it?
Will 01 gs500, raised bars, cruising pegs, small wind screen, 9003st head light bulb, custom scratches.

The Buddha

High rise... Ok how high... and you want the same bar as the 90-00 or the 01+... but higher lift... That yes... I think. How nice should it look is the next question. And I guess I should be able to do it for $20 more. I have a feeling it will end up looking a bit industrial. But I'll bend up the same tubing into a tighter set of bends and use it as a lifter. That might be the most elegant answer.

I'm happy with my home built adapter other than It looks bad. INdustrial bars would do it for me. My bike is 01.
Can a person buy crome 7/8 " pipe and bend their own bars, or will the crome flake off??
Will 01 gs500, raised bars, cruising pegs, small wind screen, 9003st head light bulb, custom scratches.

The Buddha

You need 7/8th OD tubing... pipe is measured by ID... 7/8th pipe will be some vague 1.25 or somehting OD, 1/2inch pipe is 3/4th inch OD and wont work either. Now chrome will flake off if you bend /cut and you will have to grind it off to weld. Plain steel should be the best. The material has to be bent in a mandrel bender. Most muffler shops have good electrical ones, but I have had the best results with the cheap $100 somehitng one they thought in a million years no one will ever use. I will make a bar and put it in position and tack it and click a pic and post it. Let me know if that looks good. I think I can make it look better than I previously thought. 01 or 90-00 makes no diff I think.
Cool.

OK since no one has responded to the make your own bar idea... tommorow every bit of steel I have lying about is going to get welded and become a handle bar or a case saver. So There goes the whole damn weekend.... and hopefully not more than that.
Now Will, I'll tack it and send you a pic, if you like it send me paypal, I'll make that just for you and the others can whistle after it....    If not... I'll break it and make it into a handlebar...
Cool.

ok i just joined here like 2 days ago so i'm lost.  do u make new handlebars?  are they to give a more aggressive riding position?  do u know if they will work on a 92 bandit even though they were designed for the gs500?  i'd like to see pics but have no idea where page 20 of WOF is.

The Buddha

OK I do make handlebars, The ones below my name in my avatar are the ones. Ok the wof is ... on the top right of the page you see a drop list with Go to.... select the list, and the wall of fame option... then page 10 and then page 15 and then 20. Think they will fit a B4 just fine, it seems to be like a GS in the dash. And they will pull you level with the triple clamp... cos they have no rise. They are absolutely flat.
Cool.

well how much for some already welded, like the ones in the pic,  just bare metal?  even though i'm tryin to sell the bike i'd still like some new handlebars while i still have it  :)

The Buddha

Metal will be $40, but might be $45 because i am powder coating them... Now if you must have plain... I can yank them before they get sent to the powder guys... and I am a bit behind (yea what else is new) and hence monday is when I'll be done with the bars. Tuesday is the day they get sent to powder coating. So monday night... you tell me and payfor them... and a paint set is yours.
Cool.

The Buddha

Cool.
