2000 GS500 Question about Temperature and Buzzing

Folks, rode 'new' to me GS500 today for almost 80 miles and have few quick questions:

1- Bike feels really buzzy around 5krpm and above in lower gears and even in 6th gear, going at 70mph still feel buzzy around 6-7k rpm and above. Is that normal?

2- After I finished the ride, checked the temperature with IR thermometer, side casing where engine oil goes and clutch side, both were showing between 202-210 and cylinder fins were showing around 300ish, is that again normal?

3- My weight, with gear and everything is nearly 150lbs, but I feel front suspension feel really soft when I brake.

If it helps, bike has almost 6,000 miles and is it pretty good condition.

Looking forward to your input and guidance. Thanks

Hi maverick,

I'd be inclined to say that the GS can be a buzzy bike in general... people have added weighted bar ends to help with that or (I think..?) I've heard of people filling the handlebars with something to weigh them a bit? My brain is a bit fuzzy with that memory tho... pretty sure I've read it on here somewhere over the years  :icon_rolleyes:

I've never checked the temp of the engine like that before... but I'm curious to see what other people say in regards to that question.

My weight with gear and all is around 150 as well and yes the front forks are soft. From what I've gathered on this forum, upgrading the springs would be a bit overkill for my weight so I just replaced the 10w fork oil with 20w. Made a nice difference  :D
Superbike bars, '04 GSXR headlight & cowl, DRZ signals, 1/2" fork brace, 'Busa fender, stainless exhaust & brake lines, belly pan, LED dash & brake bulbs, 140/80 rear hoop, F tail lens, SV650 shock, Bandit400 hugger, aluminum heel guards & pegs, fork preload adjusters, .75 SonicSprings, heated grips

Thanks for your response. Yeah, that's what I have heard and researched that it can be a noisy bike, guess have to live with it :)

What kind of oil did you use for forks? Guess, I'll do that in winter as a winter project :)

No problem! Hey maybe someone will reply soon with something to help the noise/buzzyness... I guess I'm just used to it lol!

I used this stuff right here for my forks:

Thanks, curious how much was it? Was it easy to just drain and refill kind of thing?

It's around $25... but to me it was worth it because I wanted to try it.

I was also going all out with the project because the fork seals needed replaced as well. They were leaking bad.  :technical:

I wouldn't say it was hard to do, just time consuming...! I was being super careful and reading step by step in the manual. I made sure to look up info on here and watch some fork maintenance videos before I did anything as well  :thumb:
