Hello !

First of all let me Introduce myself .. My name is Matic , I'm 22 years old and I'm from Slovenia. I've recently bought a used '97 GS500E. This is my first motorcycle so I don't have any experience with them. I need to fix some of the things on my bike and I would like to know if there are any interchangeable parts with other suzuki motorcycles that would fit my GS500. Specifically the exhaust. I need to replace it because the previous owner thought it was a great idea to drill a big hole into the muffler. I've checked Ebay and there are some used exhausts for sale but not a lot... So is there the same exhaust on any other model or no ?

Thanks for all of your answers, cheers.

I'm a pretty new gs500 owner as well but I've seen a few write-ups on exhaust mods. There are a number of slip-on exhausts that should work but a lot of them require cutting the stock exhaust off at the pipes just a bit behind the rear brake/right foot peg area. At that point I think your choice of exhaust is up to you, because most of them will take a little modding to clamp/secure it to the existing pipe.

Take my words with a grain of salt though, like i said, still new as well and trying to figure out similar issues with mine too.

I picked up a cheapie on ebay. I cut off the old muffler and welded the new one on. I blasted the whole exhaust system and gave it a coat of VHT high temperature paint. Sounds good, I'm happy with it.

Do you by any chance still have the ebay link to your muffler ?

Be aware that with a lot of after market exhausts you end up having to rejet your carbs.  It's not terribly hard but as a person brand new to motorcycling,  you may want to consider investigating this before choosing a new exhaust whether it be full system or a slip on.
