Gday, i have recently purchased a GS500E although it has been recently rebuilt and in the process they put a newer model head on it. the only complication with this is that Suzuki went to a digital tach in the later models.
So after looking for a second hand digital tach they come in at about $100 (AUD) whereas i can buy an entire dash cluster on Ebay for roughly $50-60 (AUD).
Ive been looking at this one in particular

Has anyone had any success with mounting and installing one of these Ebay Tach's? and if so what did they use to mount the unit as im not that great with the craftsmanship.

P.S, would appreciate it if someone has a picture of the plugs that the dash goes into the bike loom so i don't have to pull my headlight and dash off to check.

Thanks in advance,
Mitch

Welcome to the site Mitch!

I'll be the first to tell you: using an aftermarket dash will involve a lot of work. You'll have to splice ALL the wiring going into it, fab up a mount for the speedo magnet pickup, wire the tach into the engine / timing pickup, and obviously make a mount for the dash itself. Then you have to program the settings in the new cluster like wheel diameter, engine cylinders, etc.

Honestly? Paying a little extra for a stock "F" tach might be worth it if you think about all the work involved. Of course, it's your bike and I get it if you go aftermarket!

Hey Mitch,

Search the projects and builds threads. Several members have upgraded their tach/speedo unit with an aftermarket unit. There's two new threads by endopotential and gregjet that show their tach and speak about their install.

If you aren't used to wiring diagrams ( plural . The GSA has a heap for different years and countries) or good with wiring fabrication go stock.
If you are the one I used was pretty easy except for the rewire of the single to dedicated blinker dash  indicators. Used stock wiring but had to used various wires for different uses and ended up with 3 unused wires( which will be handy for powering the 12v acc takeoff for the intercom and GPS).
The unit you linked looks good but seems very cheap so may be a little suspect. I use Acewell's as I used them on all my racing bikes and they are very reliable ( as long as you don't push buttons without thinking), but they are much more expensive.

Thank-you all for the input and after looking into a few aftermarket options i have decided it would be much easier to just install a stock one. Now the next problem i will face once i order it is wiring.
I have a GS500E that originally came with a cable driven tacho, how do i wire up the digital to the coil? (as in what wires go where)

Thanks in advance
