Here's the situation:

- 100% stock 2007F engine/filters/exhaust with 15k miles
- running lean, as indicated by both performance and white on the plug ground straps
- exhaust valves are out of spec and i plan on fixing those before the jets
- i smelled something burning last time i rode and i sure hope it wasn't the valves
- i live in NJ and ride year round
- better performance is great but my main goal is to fix the lean issue
- here's what i gathered for options, where should I start?

Option     Pilot     Mid      Main       Idle Screw        Needle Washers

Stock      17.5     60       130         -                      -
A            17.5     60       130        +3 turns            2
B            20       60       132.5      +3 turns            -

2007F with 22k NY/NJ miles. Stock exhaust/airbox. Rejet to 20/60/132/one o-ring/1.25 turns out, +2 mojo

Yep, I already read that, and those configurations are "1 person" recommendations. The reason I started this thread is because i saw folks starting with other configurations. So it looks as if there's more ways that one to do this, not sure which is best

I'll let someone else chime in here since I have zero experience with the 3-jet carbs.

Imagine Suzuki taking a good thing then going one step lean to make the EPA happy  :dunno_black:

This is what I did with mine, #20 Pilots and #132.5 Mains, throttle response, cold starting where improved, always felt it should have come out of the box this way.

that's it? you didnt have to mess with the covered idle screw?

You'll have to adjust the idle mixture either way. In my [very limited] experience there's a reasonably wide range of adjustment that will work with various effects on the way the bike runs, and you kind of pick what set of conditions you can live with the best. You can probably go to 3 or 3.5 turns and it will run fine with +1 size pilot jet, but dialing in cold starting and hanging idle for your tastes will require some tinkering.

Yes, and they sent the correct ones to countries where the EPA didn't strangle them, like canadia. But in 00, Canadia also joined the fray.
1 person - probably me, I did it with a O2 sensor bolted to the exhaust, but it was only on an 89-00 bike. On the 01+, I just logically repeated it, and it worked good on the plug pulls.

Cool.

Thanks, we'll see how the plugs go. First need to finish the shim job. I just finished ordering replacements so I'm waiting for them to ship. I'm lucking out because the weather here in NJ has been 45F+, so working outside has been a pleasure.

Some good info in the link, gives ma starting point to have ago and see.

Is there an advantage over the lunchbox design K&N filter as opposed to individual cone filters?  I get the more surface area for air to get in but apart from that?  Just making sure I leave enough room when remodelling the frame.
