SF Giants are my beloved team. I bleed orange (our colours are orange and black). I love, Love, ADORE baseball, and I utterly am in love with our stadium. When the end of baseball comes 'round, I mourn. I could put on mourning weeds and sit in a cemetary I'm so sad.

But when the Pitchers and Catchers are called up..... and then Spring Training starts... and then....OMGOMGOMG baseball returns, I'm in bliss-land.

I *LOVE* going to games, gorging on hawtdawgz, and watching my beloved team kick some boo-tay. Not so much boo-tay last season, but it was respectable. Now that we have the stupid "even year" curse off our backs, we can get back to the bidness of playin' ball!!!!

What teams do you love (so I know my frenemies), and what makes you happiest about baseball? New rules you hate or love? Players you hate or love? Anything and everything baseball here!!!!!!

I get the mourning thing. I'm a football guy. Last weekend wasn't to bad though because the 6 nations were on but there's no rugby on this weekend so it's going to be a long weekend...

I loved going to rugby games while I was at university. I love American football, too, even though my team currently sucks!

The mourning is the same, though.... The months while there's no baseball ....I HATE being at the starting time of that. If I stand on tippy toes, I can almost see the first pitch in the next couple of months (after Spring Training). YAY sports!!!!!!!

Edit: It looks as though Sookie was one of those rare purple beauties...I don't imagine she still is?

I'm a Reds fan, born and raised. Sadly, Cincinnati hasn't had a championship team in any sport since the Reds won the World Series when I was 2.

Opening Day is a big deal here in Cincy. Since we are home to the first major league team, we have the pleasure of hosting opening day every year. We have a big parade, and it's just a huge celebration. I've only been once previously, but I got my hands on a pair of tickets this year! Even better, I work for a Cincinnati based company that gives us a free day off if we have tickets to the game!

This is HUGE in my book. I haven't even heard of many Silicon Valley employers to take this approach. THAT would bring out the loyalty in me! Your team is past due!!!!

My TEAMS are all past due! The Bengals can't win a playoff game to save their lives, and didn't even make it this year. My University of Cincinnati Bearcats basketball team hasn't been to the Final Four since 1992 (although they're looking awfully tough this year, and are hugely underestimated IMO). And the Reds haven't won a playoff series since 1995, if I remember correctly. Your Giants had something to do with that a few years back...in Cincinnati, which makes the pain that much greater lol. This year certainly won't be any better. I'm just hoping this rebuild goes fast.

Like I said, Opening Day is huge in Cincinnati. Here's a cool picture of the crowd outside the stadium leading up to the game.

There have even been talks of making it an official holiday. Baseball is serious business around here, even if we can't field a good team.

I don't normally watch much baseball, but this year's World Series was awesome to watch. One of my good friends is a die-hard Cleveland fan (all sports), so he was really excited about the Indians being there. Game 7 was the most intense sporting event I've seen in a long time.

Indeed, it was a good one. I'm not a big fan of watching baseball on television, but what a series.

Was a damned good series, though I was still butt-hurt that the Cubs took my Giants' spot in that Series.

Go Cubs!

Wait, I'm from the south-side...

Boo Cubs!  Go White-Sox!

I never liked watching baseball, but I'd always get together and play with my friends.
I played right-field in little league, but I got into a bit of a strike-out slump mid season and the coach rode my ass for it so I didn't really have a good time by the end.
Rather than work on fundamentals with me his solution was to put me in a batting cage and throw fastballs (and I mean FAST balls) at me until I connected.  Said if I could hit his pitches I could hit anything thrown at me in a game.  Clearly that was the right procedure, I barely had a hit after that "lesson".

When I was on I could hit decent line-drives, and was consistently getting singles and doubles for a good while.
Don't know what came over me, I'm good at handling stress, I just lost a lot of steam mid season.
I did get a new bat and refused to use anything else.  Maybe it was a little too long or too heavy for me or something.  I don't remember it being so, and when I connected with that thing I was bouncing it off the fences, but maybe I was just being stubborn and using equipment that wasn't right for me.
I honestly can't say.

But I was at least a good outfielder.  Had plenty of catches and more than a few good throws out.

That's the kind of coach I'd like to put into a batting cage with about 10 ball machines throwing fast balls at his head!  >:(

Saw da cubs take it all in 16, da bears do it in the mid 80s, nearing a lifetime trifecta here, if the Sox can do it before I go to the great dugout in da sky. The cubs thing is unique here. You'd have to be 116 at least to have a decent shot to remember last time. 1908. If I were 116 id be doing good to remember to get dressed before leaving the house lol.

I can't wait for Monday! I'm taking my little boy to the parade and the game. It's his first Opening Day...tickets weren't cheap, but I'd love to make it into a new tradition.

Thanks! It was a lot of fun! They posted up on the video board that there were 5 people in the ballpark that had been to 68+ consecutive Opening Day games in Cincinnati. One lady has been to 77 in a row! Pretty incredible...

Looks like it's going to be a tough year for the Reds. Rebuilding is hard, especially for a smaller market like ours. From what I understand though, the Reds currently have the youngest roster in the majors. Hopefully that means high energy, and good things for years to come.
