Best LED headlight bulb?

I've seen some discussion on links to bulbs and led kits for the gs500.

I want to replace the bulb on my 07 gs500f and was wondering whats the easiest LED replacement.

I'm assuming this bulb here http://stores.advmonster.com/native-h4/ is the correct one? All I need to do is remove my bulb on the gs500 and put this one in?

If anyone has any better bulbs/links to ship to Texas area please link them.

Thanks.

This thread here is where most of the recent discussion took place:

A good deal of information in there, plus different options. I'm still a fan of the Native H4 but I can't say for sure if it will fit in the stock F housing (I have an E).

To answer your question, yes, IMO it's the easiest replacement. I messaged the advmonster site before I bought the Native and asked them if it would fit in the E bucket. They sent me a message back telling me that if it didn't fit, they would give me a refund. It couldn't hurt to send them a message asking if they guarantee fitment into an F housing and if they'd do a refund for you as well if it doesn't fit.

Broken don't put an LED in a reflector housing designed for Halogen. It simply will not work as designed. Will give you intense foreground lighting which decreases your distance vision. Also "cold spots" where the LED bulbs simply can't light up because they are forward firing.

Read more about that here: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html

This is inaccurate.. the right H4 LED headlamp is not forward-firing. The LEDs are arrayed similarly to the directed light from a H4 bulb which has internal reflectors to attempt to direct the light into the correct part of the reflector.

There are cheap/crummy LED headlight bulbs that will physically fit in an H4 housing but are in no way intended to function in a reflector housing. I am not talking about these types of bulbs.

I was wondering about that too... but it feels like I've stuck my own foot in my mouth enough around here lately... and figured I'd just  :-X

There was a lot of good information brought up in that thread as well as actual real-life experiences/examples.

I (as well as Blue, Ben and Watcher) bought bulbs that were specifically designed to work in a reflective halogen housing and the LED's are facing up towards the sky, not forward (unless again, I'm being really dumb lol and forward firing actually means facing up to the sky  ).

You (mr72) bought a whole new LED assembly to completely eliminate the halogen housing, which if I'm remembering the other thread correctly, was an option suggested.

broken26... what are your thoughts?

If Mr Broken decides to go LED he should do as MR72 recommended and buy a LED housing, which includes the LED's designed for bucket fitment. Not just replace a bulb.

I'm still waiting on output photos from yall.

JW Speaker 8790 Adaptive. It isn't a replacement bulb, but it is the best LED housing on the market in my opinion. I need to get some proper rubber spacers to correctly mount the bucket before aiming, but I will follow up with patterns when I get that sorted.

This has been posted in various guises a few times.
The problem with LED H4 replacements is most have emmiter that are completely different size and shape from the std QI/halogen bulb emmitters. It is made even worse by the segmented reflectors used in the GS headlight.
Phillips ( inter ailia) have finally got around to producing LED emmiter bulbs that exactly emulate the tungsten coils and produce  perfect pattern. HOWEVER , despite when they first came out they were sort of reasonably priced ( I bought a set), they has weirdly skyrocketed in price.
These are they.http://www.philips.com.au/c-p/12953BWX2/x-treme-ultinon-led-car-lamp
Hopefully the Chinese will make copies ( patenting a tungsten emulation should be impossible in theory)

my 2 cent on LED lighting, unless you do proper research.. all you're gonna do is get the same visibility range of a stock bulb, while increasing driver rage because you're blinding oncoming traffic. think how you feel when a lifted truck drives at you with his *cue the typical banjo redneck Do-dee-do phrase* 5324982348 light bar LED's blinding you, but not actually lighting anything up from his perspective. god I hate those stupid light bars... we all know THAT ONE GUY. who has them, it really is a stereotype. kinda like DAS BUSAs and ZX12s.. if it ain't stretched and chromed with RGB LEDs, you ain't a real man! Oh and if you don't install a rear passenger seat cowl and make your girlfriend sit on that, you also aren't a real man! MIRA MIRA MIRA! /rantoff

Yeah, some 'busa and zx12/14 guys make no sense to me. Any time I see one at a meetup, they have a -1 front sprocket, stretched swingarm and a huuuuuuge rear tire, but they never take their bike to a drag strip. What's the point of all those mods if you're not actually serious about using them? Even unmodded, I'm not sure what niche those bikes are filling... I guess maybe they would be good on lengthy highway rides, but if that's what you're after, I feel like something like an FJR1300 probably a better choice?

Any way, about the LEDs, as long as you don't half ass it, LEDs can be an awesome upgrade. More visibility is always good, especially since bike headlights are often so crappy.

For as much as those Philips LED retrofit units cost now, I would just by a DOT/SAE approved drop in LED housing.

I aimed my JW Speaker unit at 17 feet per the wiki and went for a test ride this evening. The adaptive feature is really cool and gave me a bit more confidence taking curves at speed. Output is leaps and bounds better than the halogen bulb and diffuser lens. As promised previously, here are the patterns from 25 feet.
