Thank you, looking forward to it. Might have to replicate the brackets  :)

You probably already have this sorted out... sorry for the delay; I've been very sick and haven't gotten to the shop at all. Hopefully this image is helpful.. if not I can take another view, just let me know.

Hopefully I can get a clear definitive answer as to where the vacuum line goes on the carb so I can test her out with the new tires and exhaust. About ready to delete the vacuum petcock, but im holding onto hope since I cleaned it all out and I like not having to switch a petcock off every time I get off the bike

Ok update time, ive been doing some field work for the military and haven't had time with the bike. Solved the vaccum issue which really steadied out my idle and throttle response so all good there! And here's a pic of the brackets for the seat, I just put two bolts right through the angle where the frame comes together at the back.

Now for the new problem of course..  so I went for a decent length ride with no issues, went out for a shorter ride to the gas station this morning and a few seconds after hitting a bump (not sure if it was related) the bike shut off as if I had turned off the key, gauges lights and all. Walked the bike home, Now there's no response from the gauge when I turn the key, no lights, and the bike won't even attempt to turn over, like a dry battery. The battery is new and perfectly fine, I know this because both the bluetooth system and the cellphone charger on the handlebars are running fine, and the battery's reading fully charged on my battery tender.

Something simple maybe? A blown fuse or something disconnected somewhere? Let me know what you guys think

Awesome! Thanks! But for the life of me, I cannot figure out anything in the picture :/

the_63

There is, as far as I'm aware, just the fuse. it's a 20amo blade, right side of the bike by the regulator. I blew mine a few days ago

It was that fuse, problem solved. Off to grab a stash of 20 amps for next time lol

Sorry I know the picture wasn't very detailed. So if you get a similar or the same seat as me, you'll get those two brackets you see at the rear of the seat. (Mine looks weird because I mounted the taillight to the bottom of the seat). Youll also get a spoon-like bracket for the front to wedge under the tank. The two rear brackets are bolted through the angular end of the rear frame like so.

On a side note, with a few successful rides under its belt, the GS has moved to its rightful parking spot amongst the other much faster albeit less-cultured suzukis. 😀

Hey Gsjon, I've decided to copy your tail light decision,  but honestly do not understand the wiring, I've got five wires on the light and 7 wires between the other aftermarket light and blinkers that I'm replacing...any help would be appreciated...

New headlight, finally got rid of that lightbar I had on there. Next is a katana shock that should be here in a few days, getting way too much sag with the stock shock. Already had the knobs on my tires break the taillight while offroading 😑

Looks literally a million times better.  :thumb:

Also, nice quiver! What all do you have in there? We're a three suzi household as well, although I'm looking for a couple more.

Hey GSjon.  I'm new to the forum and this is actually my first message.  Your Bike is just awesome brother. And the back story of getting it for helping your buddy pack up is really cool. I have a 2005 gs500f myself. I've customized it to my personal liking including an extension and gsxr wheel with a 170 on the rear. I really like how u customized your bike to your liking without caring if someone else digs it or not. My opinion is that it's awesome brother.

GSjon

Looking into a set of clip ons to lower the handlebars and make the lines flow a little better when you look at the bike.
Does anyone know offhand the fork diameter on a 2001? I'm finding conflicting information online

JT-2012

The fork diameter should be 37mm. I have clip ons on my bike also

Endopotential

Yup, same here, 37mm for my '07.

In my eyes, they look best if you put the clip-ons below the triple tree, but this makes for a pretty aggressive riding position.

Putting them on top of the triple tree would work fine, but just less pleasing aesthetically.

You can also opt for the '89 clipons, on which the bars bolt to the top plate allowing you to keep the stock height.

I apologize in advance for the dumb question, but how are you guys posting pics. I tried posting a pic of my bike, but when I try to attach it to the message it says the file is too large. I'm trying from my smartphone.  I know some of you all are able to. Any advice?   Thanks

JT-2012

I think some of you guys will be very impressed with my gs, if I can just figure out how to post some pics of my gs.
