Hi there. Just joined the forum.  Great site btw.

I'm planning to get a gs500f in a few weeks after my safety course and I just have a question.  If this has been already addressed I apologize.

I was wondering if the side faring on the 2004 gs500f can be removed without any undue sideeffects.  Sort of like a mini sv650s^^  If the bike is basically the same as a naked gs500 it shouldn't be a problem right?

I see some members are from Canada.  I hail from London, ON. Anyone in the area?

Keep safe everyone.

well, ain't that ironic... all the guys w/ 500Es want to find a faring that fits, while you're trying to take yours off the 500F

i don't know the answer (although if i had to guess, i'd say it would be fine), but if you can get it off, people will pay you for it  ;)

Haha, it is a bit ironic isnt it.  I love the naked look but I really like having that front faring.  Also I live in a small city so it's much easier for me to get a 500f than trying to track down a 500e.  Well, if I do manage to get it off and I like it I'll let you know whether the faring are on sale  ;)

welcome to the forum. newbie here too and i just got my 500F a couple of weeks ago.  it is the same as the naked 500E, if you take the fairing off, but if u intend to keep only the front fairing, not possible. the side and front is all in one piece.

look for the topic Ontario roll call, for southern ontario gs riders.

That would be a mistake, the side piece will come off while the front headlight section stays on, if you look here at Suzukis site ( http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/ProductDisplay.aspx?modelCode=GS500FK4 ), you will notice the 3 allen bolts near the front turn signals, two more by the suzuki sticker, one by the foot peg, and a plactic one on the underneath side by the exhaust.

hi! i'm in Vancouver, BC...
i have a 500F too... recently i went for an advanced course so i took out the side fairings to put in the engine case guards. no problems. the side comes off easy and there's i think 3 brackets that it attaches to the frame. there's 3 bolts on the side connecting to the front fairing and 1 on the top near the tank. u can also take out the "dashboard" under the windshield, which is what i did. there's also 2 plastic type bolts holding the bottom of the side fairings together. and 1 on each side under the front fairing connecting to the side.

i guess this sounds abit confusing  8)  and i should've taken pics... but i forgot and i put the fairings back on already after the course .... if u *really* need help i guess i could do it again to show u... but it's pretty easy once u start at it... only tools u'll need is a set of allen keys...

Thanks for the reply guys!

Good to hear I can get it off without too much trouble.  Kel, I think I can manage, can't ask ya to take it off again just to show me lol.

If you like the naked look, as far as I know they are still manufacturing the gs500 here in Canada

http://www.suzuki.ca/en/bike/intro.cfm?modelcode=gs50&subcategory=street/sport

Phone the dealership and ask, it'll be cheaper then the gs500f.

BTW - If you're new to riding, the less plastic the better... less to cry about if you drop your bike ;)
