Hi Guys,

I'm a new member here and a proud owner of a 2002 GS500E!HELLS YEAH!

I really love this bike which is why I ended up here as I need some help/info/tips.

QUICK BACKSTORY:
I'm from South Africa and bought her a few months ago. Everything was going good until I ended up in a minor accident which resulted in the speedo cluster being damaged.(Huge hole in the back cover)
So naturally I was looking at replacing the cluster, i mean who wants to see their baby with a hole in the head??
At first I was very optimistic about the whole situation and I hit the net with my search....boy was I hit right in the feels.

Here's why:
Being from South Africa, our currency isn't exactly the strongest against other markets. The most affordable cluster I could find was on Ebay for about R1300, which to me is a helluva lot of money (especially seeing as I got my bike for R8000).

Why I ended up telling you guys this story:
I need someone, anyone or everyone to give me some info or tips.
Is there another solution to this? Is there some way that I can get a replacement cluster for this bike that wont end up with me having to sell my kidneys first?
I've tried looking for clusters that might fit my bike from another bike but I cant really find anything specific.
Please guys any info would be helpful as I really hate seeing my bike with this whole in her head.

Thanks,

ShowBizWolf

Hi GateKeeper! Welcome to the forum and congrats on the bike purchase! Glad to see you're loving your GS

Do you have any pics of what exactly is damaged?

I ask because when I bought my GS, this is what my gauge cover looked like:

All I had to do was replace the black plastic cover, not the gauges and everything. Replacing everything certainly could be costly... no matter where ya are in the world!
Superbike bars, '04 GSXR headlight & cowl, DRZ signals, 1/2" fork brace, 'Busa fender, stainless exhaust & brake lines, belly pan, LED dash & brake bulbs, 140/80 rear hoop, F tail lens, SV650 shock, Bandit400 hugger, aluminum heel guards & pegs, fork preload adjusters, .75 SonicSprings, heated grips

Hi ShowBizWolf,

Thanks for getting back to me,

Mine is exactly like that, it's the back cover of the gauge cluster that's broken.

I have had a look at replacing only the cover, however, this would also have to be a import and I found prices online where this would cost me +-R1000.00

To be honest, I would much rather then buy a full unit for R1500. As I said though, this is a very costly operation for me.
I was thinking more like a universal cluster that could maybe replace mine and atleast look decent.

Once again, any ideas and tips are welcome!

Trail Tech makes some universal digital gauge clusters, mostly for people wanting to convert dirtbikes to street-legal but they'll definitely work for you.
Their most popular model is the Vapor.

Try searching for that and see what comes up.
