Will any gs500 tank fit on my 2002 gs500? How different is the tank on a 90's  gs to my '02?

Thanks!

you might be able to secure an older gs tank to your bike, on that, i'm not too sure.  however, they are very different tanks.  the 01+ models have larger, differently styled tanks.  they're wider, and have compltely different lines.  but like i said, you might be able to attach an older one if you wanted to make brakets, and didn't mind the bike looking kinda funny.

anyone else?

if you want to retrogrede to the old style you have to swap the seat plastics, tank, tail light, side tiedown bars.  and you are going to give up alot of comfort and some fuel capicity.   I am working on a race prototype tank out of stainless steel for the old style at about 3 gallons.  it whouldn't be too hard to make a new style oem replacement though,  if you still need one in a couple of weeks let me know.

Hmm, no retrograding doesn't sound very good. I just found one for sale, not sure what year it is, but it's older for sure. The guy said "will fit 1989 gs500 and newer" but I guess he doesn't know what he's talking about!

How much would the tank you make cost?? :)

I need to replace mine, sometime soon. It's not leaking or anything, but it's very ugly :/

after materials I am looking at 300 right now, with production at two.  if I was to make 5+ I could get that number down to around 200.  whould you want it painted with the stock paint scheme?  if you wanted to paint it your self it whould knock about 30bucks off of that.  these prices are considering that you can reuse all the hardware on the stock one.

The tank changed for the 2001 model year.  That year and later ones share your bike's design.

Could you make the 01+ tank fit the 89-00 GS's?

yes you can make the 01+ tank fit on a older bike, you just have to swap all the plastics, seat, tail light assy, side tiedown rails.  in my opinion is whould be well worth it.  my roommate bought a 93 after his r6 was stolen. I hate his seat with a pashion, I can't stand riding it to work let alone on any trips.

If you had the right coloured paints and everything I'd probably get you to paint it as well. My painter has a $80 (canadian) start fee, so he'd do it for $80, no less. Do you mean stock as in just all blue?

Do you have pictures of the tanks you've made before?? :)

Thanks
