i wanted to see how much play you guys had in your sidestand, when i set the bike on the stand, it stops, and then the sidestand will slide outways a little bit, i'd say if you grabbed the end, it might have 3 or so inches that it can move back and forth, it appears to just be that the part of the frame it bolts onto, just isn't as wide as the gap in the sidestand where it bolts on, but it doesn't feel right and kinda worries me, my other bike doesn't do that, my dad's harley does, but his is supposed to, i'm not sure if i need to stick some washers inbetween to sidestand and the frame or what? everytime i set it down, and then it leans farther, i'm worried i'm gonna come out th enext day to find it on it's side

mine doesn't move at all, so i'm guessing that there is indeed a problem with yours..  i would definately try to fabricate something to get it rigid again.

Mine does that. I thought it was supposed to, and I havent fouind it on its side yet and I've had mine for a year.

Washers, washers are your friends.

The side stand is meant to have side movement when you place the bike on it , it's a sort of guarantee that the bike wont fall over (eg: a sort of locking position), however if there is no movement in the stand and the bike is nudged from the rear makes it easier for the bike to roll off the stand......

Yes mine has plenty of play in it, does not seem to be a problem. When I rode a Honda CB500 for a while I got realy alarmed at the movement but the guy who was instructing me at the time said they were all like that and it was fine.

Yep, not a problem.  The sidestand seems to have been designed that way.

Once in a while I have to park in a slightly "funky" spot, where if I just put the sidestand down and let the bike rest on it, it's a little too vertical for my peace of mind.  In those cases I:

* Lean the bike until it JUST starts to exert pressure on the sidestand
* Use my boot to push the stand away from the bike (the "3 or so inches" you mentioned)
* Put the full weight of the bike on the side stand.[/list:u]This leans the bike over at a more acceptable angle.

guess i'd better have a look at mine and see if it has been "fabricated"

if it was a new bike i probably woulnd't have thought anything of it, but it's 13 years old by now, so i just kinda worry
